Great review. (Reply to this comment)

I don't agree with a lot of what you said but I think you said it very well. I do hate Xtina's new image but I really enjoy her album. I also like Avril's album but would agree its more pop than punk. I like J-Lo and do feel her musical talent is growing. Good review!

Wow. You actually set up an id just to leave a comment. Hmmmm...no, that's not suspicious at all...
God, did I actually write like that as a teenager? You know, with like all of those run-on sentences and lack of ability to properly use contractions its crazy how a total lack of sentence structure and stuff starts to stick out when your older and how by using letters instead of words u dont look like u no what your talking about but those people worked hard on that music so we should admire them no matter what even if the songs are garbage and dont require anything more than a third grade edumacation to grasp like so there!
Or, er, something like that...
Every day, I pray that J-Lo will save us from her fans. Egad.

I agree wholeheartedly with your commentary on Missy Christina A. She has so much talent! Such a beautiful, robust voice. It's unfortunate that the record label (if indeed it was them) f'd up her image.

Yeah, preach on sister!
What I really want to know is this: why do pop artists suddenly feel the privilege to take on rap names (e.g., "J-Lo") when they are the furthest thing from rap or the aspects of culture with which that musical genre is associated? It's such a front. Blech.
Scott Stapp is an idiotic spaz. I have more brains in the left side of my a5s than that guy. At least now that he's gotten the crap kicked out of him by his own wife we can label him as a wuss as well. There is justice in the universe.
We should put Stapp and Puff Daddy/P Diddy/Poop Pantsy (or whatever he's calling himself these days) into a big box like a couple of angry cats and shake it up. We'd probably be able to get rid of at least one of them that way.
Or maybe I'm just too bitter about the state of popular music (and popular culture in general, for that matter) today.
Damn, I need a beer.
Anyway, I'm glad you wrote this...so long as people keep fighting the good fight for treating music as an art instead of an industry, there's some hope. Maybe the masses will "get it" someday.
Either way, I'm gonna go down swingin'. I'm glad to know that there are others with me.
Cheers,
Mike

You said it!
I think the state of music has given me a very SLOW start on this W/O. I can't seem to get into the first part of picking what is worthy.

Shelly, what a way to let them have it! I completely agree on nearly all points made - except that "J.Lo" has any vocal talent. Still, what she has is very limited as all I hear is a bunch of audio tricks and sounds blended into her mousey little squeaks along with an assembly line of backup singers. As if her original songs weren't bad enough, she has to remix them into an entire new album and add a crew of talentless "rappers" in the mix just so for those "uh-huh, yeah" stylings that's so OVERUSED.
/rant off :)

J-Lo's vocal talent, as far as I am concerned is extremely limited - No amount of focus on that will give her respectable pipes. Great review as usual!

Thanks for the nice comments. I knew that there would be (of course) many people who don't agree with my opinion...and it's nice to knkow that I didn't get too mean about my points. Sometimes I do worry.
Thanks again.
Shelly.
P.S. I'm looking forward to your music reviews. Anybody keen on both Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin (one of my personal favorites) is fine in my book!

I'M A CHILD OF THE 60'S SO TO SPEAK (Reply to this comment)

I was Born in 1951 and started my vast record collection around 1960 or so. I had a collection of over 60,000 (singles and albums combined) by 1984 but 13 years in the Army and moving around I had to sell all but a few 100 to save money on shipping and insurance. I got out of the Army in 1984 and settled down here in Jacksonville and have since started a CD collection which is over 1400. The only music I dislike (purely hate with utmost disgust is RAP/HIP HOP) too much hatred, drugs, rape, violence, vulgar language and stuff that doesn't sound like music just horrid (way too loud strange sounds). Anyway Im sorry you dont like the music of the POP generation of the 90s and 2000s. I like most of the ones you mentioned you dont like and many more. Some of the stuff put out by the BSB and N-Sync etc. takes me back to the early 60s sounds that I enjoy the most of any era of music. Too each there own as some like the new POP sound like myself and some dont like you. But I dont fault you or anyone who doesnt and you are good at making your points. I have done many music reviews in the past and will start again soon but I probably will stick with what I know and love best thats the 60s and some of the 70s sounds. I like to review compilations the most but sometimes will stray for one big single album/CD like Dark Side Of The Moon or any of the first 4 Led Zeppelin releases or anything by Elvis or the Beatles. Thanks for your review it was done nicely and without cutting hated in my personal opinion. Sorry this comment got carried away and GOD BLESS YOU, JAGUARDOG.
