You Have My Prayers--AND My Rating!!! (Reply to this comment)
by AinsleyJo
I hope and pray that our President and other leaders haven't gotten so hyped-up on this idea of saving the world from evil that they aren't thinking straight--especially, when this thinking results in the loss of so many precious lives.

It's one thing to destroy weapons and defend ourselves, but it's another to start another Vietnam situation going where we hardly know how and where to end it.

Praying For Peace!

...I could say something that would help you feel at ease at a time like this, but everyone here has already said it so well. I don't even know your brother and I feel pride and gratitude for his patriotism and service. Rest assured that he and all of our men will be in my thoughts and prayers. God bless them all.

Hi,

This is a scary time for our country and the world. I hope all our soldiers come home safely. I hope it doesn't come down to war. I am already praying for the troops and will continue to do so. Thanks for sharing your thought provoking piece.

comfort, but I must admit that I too like you am scared. To think that so much will be lost as you said to fight those who have no faith, at least in any thing good or decent. I can only offer comfort by way of saying that you are not alone. We will all endure this together, and hopefully the nightmare will be over sooner than later. Take care, you and yours are in my prayers.

What a beautiful piece. It hits home. I don't think I can count all the wars our country had been in during my lifetime. Of course I remember WWIi, Korea, Vietnaam, and Desert Storm the most.

So many fathers, and sons, and nephews (and now nieces) and cousins we have said goodbye to, and wept as we prayed. It seems the hardest time to say goodbye is when we have just finished singing "Peace on Earth, Good Will to Men."

Of course I add my prayers for your baby brother, just as I do for all the brave young men who love their country enough to fight for it.

I love your reminder that no door closes without another one opening. I congratulate you on the new arrival to your family. You are blessed with having such a loving family, and so much support.
God will look after you and yours, just as you have always sent your good will to each of us.

Without a doubt, I know (Reply to this comment)
by mind-full

that to be in the service of our country is a calling that only a few can answer whole-heartedly.

Just last night I saw a program for children on the meaning of September 11th, during which one small girl explained that her daddy went away to protect us and serve our country . . . because it's his job.

To be called upon for this type of service is so much more than a job, yet I know that is easier for little folks to understand. It's a job that employs not only the service person, but his or her entire network of family and friends, and offers each and every one of benefits that we cannot have had any other way.

In my thoughts and prayers? You bet!

Thanks, Diane, for the reminding.

Carol, you are right about wishing more families truly understood what it is like to be in and part of a loving family. There are many times I know I would have been a desperate and lonely soul without the love and support I receive, and always have. Maybe if more knew, and lived this type of relationships the world would not be in such turmoil.

As always I appreciate your kind comments, and continued support. Happy New Year!

Hugs,

Char, the mail I have is far greater and faster than air mail. Your son will be remembered in my daily prayers. I understand your concern and fear. I admire his position as I do all those serving our country. Tell him for me how proud I am of what he is doing.

Consider Char's sons name added to the prayer list. And a powerful list it is. Peace and Happy New Year!

My prayers are with you all. You really have a wonderful family to be proud of. I too am proud of my family. I wish more families had what we have.

Cause a bunch of prayers has been sent your way! I pray for your bro and if I can ask a favor of you: would you please say a pray for my son? He is 19 and in the US Army. I don' know if he will be sent but there is a good chance. I just don't think I could handle it if something were to happen to him. May peace descend upon us all! Smiles, Char

Lorace, indeed your grandson is correct in his observation. We are needed to help others we know nothing about. but that's what we do, that's who we are a country of helping human beings. Too bad so many avoid seeing it, and take advantage of our truly caring nature.

May God go and be with your grandson in whatever his mission, as He is with all our military. Thank you for your sweet reminder. Happy New Year!

Re: My day job . . . (Reply to this comment)
by SurgRN911
Of course Mrs. G. kept up with such things. Just so she could (not that she would) remind you of all the home stuff you have to catch up on :)

Yup Dad had his fight, you had yours, now baby D. has his. May the Lord return him and all others safely and quickly. I realize you would trade places with him in a blink of an eye, and don't think I worry that someday you'll say Uncle Sam needs me back, because I know you would do it.

Please, I can only worry about one brother at a time, and now it's his turn. So stay put! Except to get your rear here. Oh speaking of that did that (hint hint) mean you expect me to cook? McDonalds is a mile away. (smile)

Drive safely and don't fret I'll be here whenever your ship lands.

Love ya

Katy, I don't know if Gung could hear you if you yelled, perhaps if you barked he might. Yes, we do learn something new everyday. Today as I read I am learning all over again what a caring, and loving community Epinions is.

This is what it's all about. Not the bashings and petty arguments. It's about people who truly care for one another. People who know little about each other but are still willing to extend a hand, reach out, and come together for a common goal. The safety of our country and those who fight to keep it that way. And for all those brave souls that have gone before them. Sorry about your uncle.

Who knows someday when we visit old Gung again, we can meet up and share a Pepsi in the name of friendship and humanity. For your lovely note I thank you, and allow you one week leave of your doghouse. Happy New Year!

Peace,
Di

Barbara, the thoughts of war is a frightening one, and the fear of not knowing what is going on is more frightful. We do the best we can, we unite, we pray, we must.

Thank you ever so much for your heartwarming comment. Yes may 2003 be wonderful for us all. Happy New Year!

Di,

It's so easy to forget until it's brought close to home, again!

I promise to remember yours and others. How great they all are and what a tremendous burden has been placed to them.

My grandson is on active duty in the AF and is always on standby, it seems. When he was stationed overseas in an unpopular war a few years back, he wrote to me, "These people NEED us, and I'm glad I'm here!"

That's the attitude that's keeping us free.

Bless you and yours, Di. Have a wonderful visit with Gungian.

My day job . . . (Reply to this comment)
by gungian
. . . boss said that family is the “best” reason for taking a day off work. So with that hurdle behind us, Mrs. G and I will load up our trusty steel steed and head out on the highway in the AM. With a good tailwind – and no snow/rain – we should pull in to your place by suppertime. [Hint! Hint!]

It is so very hard to see our baby brother suit up again. I do believe it was easier for me to go myself than watch those I love go in harms way. [Mrs. G – who keeps track of such things – informs me that I was gone more than home the first 20 years we were married.] Dad had his war to wage and I had mine – how I wish that could have been the end of it.

I am truly looking forward to starting 2003 off with a large dose of family. But there will always be room in my heart and prayers for those who still wear the uniforms and deploy so that the rest of us can enjoy the blessings of freedom.

Great posting, Sis.

Love ya and do

by katybrighteyes
I didn't realize until just now that Gung lives so close to me! We learn something new every day, don't we? Wonder if he could hear me if I stood on the balcony and hollered, "Howdy, neighbor!"?

Di, I understand completely your fears for our military now. We live here among so many Marines (and other soldiers), near Quantico, VA. These kids are wonderful... polite, helpful, friendly... all fine examples of how the rest of the world should be.

Several of our friends are in Marine and Coast Guard Reserves. Understandably, they and their families are under a great deal of personal stress these days.

I'm the niece of a terrific guy who was a career Army man. In 1972, on his third tour of duty in Viet Nam, he lost his life, just a half-hour before a helicopter was due to pick him up and transport him to a place where he would be coming home. The impending war puts fear in my heart for every soldier and their families. I can't begin to tell you how much this affects me.

I'll pray for your family as well as the others who have a loved one in the military. Let's hope 2003 is good to our soldiers and our country. This is a beautiful written request from you, my friend.

No "barks" from the dog today. :o)

LOVE and Happy New Year,
Katy
