Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
I remember seeing Scary Movie back when it first came out and I found it relatively amusing. The way it incorporated so many other movies into it was clever and it made for an entertaining film. When I heard they were making a sequel, I had a feeling it was not such a good idea, and apparently I was right.
This movie was a big disappointment as far as I am concerned, and I didn't expect anything else from it. I honestly can't think of anything about this movie that I can safely say I liked. It was basically just a huge mess.
The ONLY part of the whole movie I found bearable, and almost, dare I say it... enjoyable, was the parody of the Nike Freestyle commercials. I'm sure most of you have seen these commercials where basketball players display a plethora of incredibly hard dribbling moves and bounce the ball to the background rap beat. Well I think those are pretty awesome because I am such a huge basketball fan. In the movie, they do a pretty good parody of it, and the moves are almost impressive. Everything before and after that 30 second scene is a disaster.
In Scary Movie, the main story line that they tried to mock was Scream. In this story, it is a combination of The Haunting and House on Haunted Hill, which by the way were both terrible movies.
Tim Curry plays a professor who wants to see if he can wake the spirits in a local house where a man supposedly murdered his wife and mistress, or something to that effect, I wasn't really paying close enough attention to get all of the details. The point is, he gets kids who have had "near death experiences" to join his psych class. They are under the impression that they are going to this house for a weekend to test and attempt to cure sleeping disorders.
Once they get in the house, they all start having encounters with ghosts and poltergeists and all that, most of which are ridiculous and seem like they were thought up by some perverted 12 year old. So for those of you who find that kind of stuff amusing, disregard this entire review and go watch this movie and knock yourself out.
The cast was pretty terrible in my opinion. The Wayans brothers, who I normally consider to be very funny people, were great disappointing. They made many feeble attempts at humorous one-liners, most of which failed miserably. There were a few lines in there that got a chuckle out of me, but when compared to all of the lines that made me cringe with disgust... well there is no comparison.
Damon Wayans still plays a gay character, and throughout the movie he is constantly acting very... well... gay. Not that I have a problem with gay people, but watching a guy grab other men's rear ends and making extreme sexual comments about homosexuality is not my idea of a good movie.
His brother, Marlon Wayans, is almost as bad with his die hard drug habits. There is not a single scene in the whole movie where he is not acting like he is under the influence of at least 10 different illegal substances. Once again, if you find this empty, shallow comedy to be funny, then enjoy yourself with this one.
Another poor addition to the cast is Tori Spelling. Her story is that she is sexual "attacked" by the male ghost in the house and she then falls in love with him and wants to marry him. When she finds out the ghost is going after "Cindy" because she looks strikingly similar to the ghost's wife, she becomes jealous and desperately tries to attract the ghost. For those of you who are thinking that this is the stupidest thing you have ever heard in your entire life, you are most certainly not alone. Believe me when I tell you, my brief description of that doesn't even do it any justice, it is down right horrendous.
Another cast member who I found extremely annoying was Anna Faris, who you might remember as Cindy from the original Scary Movie. She redefines the word "naive" and has the intelligence of a 5 year old. The absolutely brain dead things she does and says drove me insane and made me want to give her a good smack across the face, but I don't hit girls... damn.
WARNING: NOT SUITABLE FOR YOUNG EYES OR MINDS
This movie is DEFINITELY not one that you want your children to see, and as you well know, because of that fact, they will want to see it even more. Take my advice, take it on the chin this time and just don't let them see it. It will corrupt and poison their young and innocent minds, and if you don't think a movie can be that bad for a child, I DARE YOU to go watch this movie and tell me you'd want your 13 year old son to see it.
Despite my feelings on this film, I guarantee there are plenty of people out there right now who are disagreeing with every word in this review. And to be fair to those people I have to say that if you are into immature comedy and you really liked the first Scary Movie, then this might be a great movie for you to see, so don't let me stop you. For those of you who are not amused by ridiculous and pointless plots and acting and script, you might wanna pass on this one.
The Wayans brothers scored a surprise monster hit with SCARY MOVIE and in the advertising for that film they promised "no sequel." So here it is SCARY...More at Family Video
