Pros: Great buy for the money.
Cons: None really
The Bottom Line: After the rebate from Best Buy, this item came to $69. It has all the features of a Sony or HP and is better performing from my experience.

| dandman's Full Review: LG Electronics CD-RW Recorders |
Well, my title says that the LG CD-ReWriter/Recorder is the best for the price, and that's true. In fact, I haven't dealt with any other piece of hardware in it's class that as quiet and friendly as this. I am running Windows ME, but it is compatible with all the Windows platforms. It's called the CED-8080B Value Kit, so it comes with all the cables, mounting screws, manuals, and software that you need to install this internal piece of hardware.
SPEED
CD Rewrite - 4x, 2x
CD Write - 8x, 4x, 2x
CD Read - 32x max
These are not the fastest speeds out there, but again, for the price you really can't beat it.
NOISE
Noise, what noise? This thing is soooo quiet, it's almost annoying. Sometimes I like to know when my equipment is working, but the LG is so quiet, I can't tell. I actually have to look over at the light.
RELIABILITY
This piece of equipment does not cause any errors outside of the normal Microsoft experience. Errors are almost never, which is not what I expected from an RW at this price point. Hint: When using the included Direct CD software, it seems more reliable to RW at 4x even though you are actually using CDRs, they are being rewritten on and therefore more reliable at the 4x speed instead of the possible 8x CDR speed.
SOFTWARE
The hardware came with the industry standard Adaptec software which included the Easy CD Creator 4 and Direct CD. I like Easy CD Creator 4 better than 5. It just seams easier to use and more reliable. You are probably familiar with this software’s function if you are or have been recently in the market for a rewriter. Basically, it will copy CD to CD, data to CD, audio CD creation, or jewel case cover creation. Direct CD is amazing because it can actually make your CDRs rewritable (to some degree). You have to first format the CDR disc to be a Direct CD then you can add and remove data and folders just like a zip or what have you. COOL! The Adaptec softeare is not always called for in all cases, so other software may be needed for advanced operations. No sweat, the LG performed flawlessly with FireBurner, Nero, CDR Win and other popular programs ;o)
