Great list! I'm especially liking your inclusion of lesser-known rhyming prodigies such as Anti-Pop and Sage Francis, whom I felt should've been placed at least above N.E.R.D., but that's just my opinion.

Yeah...I kind of purposefully left off Wilco and Queens Of The Stone Age. I didn't think either one of them necessarily put out a bad album, but I figured everyone was going to plug them so much already and does anybody else really want to hear more hype about Wilco? If it wasn't for a vast network of my friends burning albums for each other and getting free promos from work - then I doubt I would have that many acquisitions this year either. Thanks though.

.

Nice range; somehow i'm especially pleased with your omission of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. You've stayed pretty current though -- me, while 2002 saw the acquisition of maybe 80-100 new discs, only 10 or so were newly released last year.

wow. what a list. i am in awe of your vast knowledge of music. it's tough finding a critic specializing in more than one genre these days. to make a best-albums-of-the-year list that does not neglect too many genres -- and to put one out without the help of a music critic staff -- is really an impressive feat. i also liked how you didn't forget about the great albums that were released early in 2002 (the ones that critics tend to forget when the year's end starts to roll around).
