Ok let's put it that way. I love it & I hate it. Why?.....
great monitor, really. Super sharp projection if connected to digital video card (tested with Oxygen VX-1600SW) vibrant colors, not really easy to calibrate but thats beauty of LCDs. Screen resolution makes view very clean and of course WIDE SCREEN!! I still wonder why other companies except Mac don't switch to wide screen monitors. Imagine screen where you can display your Photoshop window in full size, and still have most of your toolboxes open, or Excel or other datasheet applications where you don't need to scroll to see rest of it....that SGI 1600SW.
Time to bad news...SGI released two types of thouse monitors. First shipments (with embeded silver SGI cube sign on it) were (in my opinion) much well tested and had more quality than new ones. New shipments (with painted SGI white letters) are not very well tested before they hit the store. I bought mine with one LIT PIXEL (There are two phenomenon which define a defective LCD pixel: A "lit" pixel, which appears as one or several randomly-placed red, blue and/or green pixel elements on an all-black background; or a "missing" or "dead" pixel, which appears as a black dot on all-white backgrounds.) Another LIT PIXEL appeared after 4 days of constant using (I didn't turn it off to test screen temps etc). Too bad company like SGI didn't make good QA before this monitors were shipped, and only because I know SGI products and I trust them, I didn't switch to different brand (just switch to different SGI).
Thats my warning for all LCD buyers....Don't expect miracles, LCD technology got more pluses than minuses. But looks cool, it's flat, space saving so people likes it. It'll take a months?/years to make this LCD perfect.
