Pros: Great music
Great Camera
Great Phone
Cons: Fiddly for bigger hands
Average battery life
The Bottom Line: This phone has everything. If you are a music buff its worth buying for the music and the phone use alone.Definately gives the Samsung D900 a rival.

| redoncrim's Full Review: Sony Ericsson W810i |
My last phone was a Samsung D600. Wonderful phone but with some limitations so I decided to look to the D900. It looked pretty much the same but with a slightly better camera. I looked around and stumbled across the Sony Ericsson W810i. I am glad I did. This is an incredible phone.
On opening my first thought was that it felt very cheap, light and plastic. Once I had inserted the battery, sim and plugged in the charger I was greeted with a wonderful orange glow backlight to the keys. Against the jet black casing it certainly appealed. The screen was crystal clear and I forgot about the tacky plastic side of things.
Once charged, it was a breeze to set up. Everything is explained clearly and set out for you. I did initially think though that a mans fingers would find the very small keys a bit difficult to get to grips with. They are a bit clicky at first but this seemed to get better with use. The central joystick function is very small but incredibly easy to get used to. On starting up the phone you have an option to use in phone mode with walkman or walkman mode only.
The volume control is situated on the top right side.
Camera quick start is a button further down on the right side of the phone.
The on/off button placed on the top of the phone is very small - too small!
After set up I checked out the functions. Amazing.
Actual phone Size 9.5cms X 4.5cms - fits into pocket comfortably.

The phone comes with PC Suite and a great little program called Disk2phone for transferring your mp3s via usb cable (supplied). The software installed with no problems and seems to run very smoothly via usb to pc. I have had loads of problems syncing in the past with other phones but this is effortless. It is however a bit on the slow side though I havent tried bluetooth so that may be better. It's all drag and drop in file manager mode. You are given two choices on plugging in the usb - file manager and phone modes.I havent tried the outlook express syncing as I dont use it thus cant comment on that. Transferring a dozen mp3s took me about 15-20 minutes on a pretty up to date pc. Not that bad.
The sorting out of folders on the phone is a pretty dim affair. Once files are in folders and you want to move them around you cant move a whole folder. It is best really to do your moving around and sorting out via the pc.
There are 3 more little programs on the phone
MusicDJ make your own melodies
VideoDJ edit music and add pictures - great for MMS
PhotoDJ a graphical editor for drawing plain pictures
Bluetooth worked great. Browsing runs smoothly and is faster loading than an MDA PRO I had with windows mobile 5 (surprisingly). I am with T-Mobile and have web n walk. No 3G with this phone.
The camera and video are excellent. Pictures clear and colours spot on. No problems with those at all.
The themes provided were pretty good and I was pleased to see you can assign ringtones to contacts.
Phone calls are clear with no problems.
I was amazed at the quality of the radio though you have to plug in the cable at the very bottom of the phone to receive.
The torch might come in handy and it even has an SOS function but beware drained battery very quickly.
Overall I love this phone and will definately be looking for the upgrade in the future.
Tips:
Try not to grip the phone by the very top as on the left is a quick key to the music player - this can perhaps be changed though I havent found out how yet.
Specs say this phone handles 2GB memory stick. You can as I have buy a 4GB stick but already I have run into problems with the voice recorder. Apparently this will only work if there is 2GB or less of memory left on your stick. If you dont record much its not a problem.
Make sure when transferring mp3s they go to the right folder clearly marked on your pc, dont put in sounds! Open all the folders and look for the music folder.
Videos are best handled and installed with best results in MPEG4. There are plenty of converters out there.
Negatives:
I am putting these down as a formality really. The keypad is very small as are the keys. Being female with smaller hands I got used to it quickly and it wasnt too bad but might annoy heavier handed people.
Sorting out your files is very fiddly on the actual phone, best done on pc.
Battery life is only average but with hefty applications is to be expected really.
Could have done to have been a bit louder to enjoy your music to the full. That said through the supplied headphones this isnt a problem.
On off button way too small.
Buy and enjoy!
