My open letter to Sony about camcorders

Outlines several qualities to look for in a camcorder. Unfortunately they are not as widespread as they should be because manufacturers often choose to maximize gimmicks - not video quality.

Right on - the AG-DVX100. It is a very recently introduced, high end product however (more expensive than Sony VX2000), and I believe that many of the features in my letter to Sony are in fact cheaper to implement than some of the gimmicks one sees on even lower end camcorders. Therefore I believe that we consumers should express to Sony and other manufacturers that the features that can really contribute to capturing high quality footage that can be cost-effectively made available at prosumer level, should be made available (reather than sacrificed to make an irrelevant spec look more impressive or to include a gimmick feature).

Panasonic makes a few models that meet most of your requirements.
