The Bottom Line Although this recipe seems long it is not. The sauce is quick and a whole lot more healthy then the jarred stuff. Try it you will never eat jarred again!
My family loves pasta. My children could live on it alone. I consider myself a health conscience mom and decided that the jarred pasta sauce would not be as healthy as a nice hearty homemade sauce. Yes, from time to time I do use canned tomatoes but the taste is still so much bolder. You will need: 5 large tomatoes (or 1 large can) 1 cup mushrooms (sliced and sauted) 2 cloves garlic 1/2 cup onions (sliced and sauted) 1/3 cup bell pepper (sliced and sauted) 2 teaspoons orageno 1/2 pound ground turkey (or ground beef) 1/2 pound spagetti noodles First, peel your tomatoes and put them on low temperture on the stove. When the tomatoes begin to boil down turn the temperture to medium and cover. Then, start a pot water to boil and when it does add the noodles. My children like thick noodles so if you prefer angel hair or thin pasta you would want to do this after you saute the veggies. In another pan saute the mushrooms, onions, garlic, and bell pepper (to do this I either use a small amount of olive oil or butter). When this is finished put the sauted items in with the tomatoes, stir and continue to boil. Using the same pan brown your turkey or beef. When this is finished add it to the tomato mixture. Strain the noodles and rinse them with warm water. Place your sauce in a bowl and your finished. This meal is very good with cheesy bread or garlic bread. |
