DO NOT BUY FROM ALIENWARE!
Feb 01 '03
The Bottom Line Steer clear of Alienware.
Decided over 5 weeks ago to order an Alienware Aurora DDR machine, based on all the great PC mag and other reviews of their stuff and the price.
I made the mistake of NOT considering all the negative comments here and elsewhere.
After paying for the machine (they dont start to build until your card is debited), I was told 15 to 20 days to complete the order and 3 day FedEx shipping.
For the last month, my order sat in the "Inventory" phase, the phase after "payment recieved, and step 3 of 10.
Every email message I sent to Alienware went unanswered.
Every phone call connected me with someone who was apparently clueless, and simply concocted replies. Each reply contradicted the other:
- oh, our website is broken. Your order is almost finished!
- there's a delay, call back next week to see what the problem is!
- Your system is now in the testing phase, it's completed
- There's a part delay, I don't know what part or when we'll have it. We'll call you tomorrow and let you know. (Never called.)
- Your tracking number will be ready tomorrow or Friday, call back later.
Well, I called back later, and was told to call back late next week to see what the status was.
AAAARRRRGGGHH!
They've had my $2200 for over 5 weeks and can't give me a simple HONEST answer.
When I finally complained, they offered to credit my account the difference between today's purchase price and the price I paid over a month ago. However, they said that this would necessitate their rewriting of the order and would delay shipment for at least 4 days. What a freakin' joke!
I've given you the Readers Digest version of the story, but each conversation was an absolute waste of time, apart from the last one where I cancelled my order.
The moral - read carefully what people on Epinions.com say, they mean more than a few badges on a company's website.
