My Chick Flick Picks
These are the movies I like to watch alone, so I can absorb every emotion involved on the screen—to cry out loud, laugh with glee, and stare stunned even though I’ve seen it before.

I picked these based on one thing-—if I had only 10 movies I could watch for the rest of my life, which ones would they be. I'm not a movie reviewer, these are just my favorites.

Here’s my list in random order:

The Way We Were (1973)
Starring: Barbra Streisand, Robert Redford Director: Sydney Pollack

Two opposites meet, fall in love, and are torn apart—a classic romance! When they meet on the street years later I just want him to grab her and walk off into forever. The music adds to the whole romance of the movie—“Memories” can still bring me to tears.

Out Of Africa (1985)
Starring: Meryl Streep, Robert Redford Director: Sydney Pollack

Based on a true story, this one took the beauty of Africa and matched it with Meryl’s outstanding performance, to show a relationship that is slow to develop. I cried, smiled, and felt the loneliness of moving so far from home and being so uncomfortable with change.

Clueless (1995)
Starring: Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd Director: Amy Heckerling

Pure fun! The love story between the half-siblings (by marriage only--get your mind out of the gutter!) is witty, amusing, and pure escapism at its best! Alicia plays the original Valley-girl in a clever and fresh way—her group of friends is too funny. When she finally hooks-up with Paul you can’t help but scream—“Kiss her!” at the screen. YUM!

As Good as It Gets (1997)
Starring: Jack Nicholson, Helen Hunt Director: James L. Brooks

Love, friendship, relationships…this movie covers all the bases. Even the dog gets in on the fun! Jack Nicholson becomes loveable throughout the movie and Helen is fabulous. Greg Kinnear is one of my favorites—I can look at him all day! Oh, and he’s fabulous in the movie as well. You’ll laugh, cry and fall in love with this mismatched group of friends.

It Could Happen to You (1994)
Starring: Nicolas Cage, Bridget Fonda Director: Andrew Bergman

Sorry, it’s my list so I get to pick—I love this one! I’ve watched it several times and still love the love story that started with a lottery ticket and a promise. Who says being nice doesn’t pay! Guilty pleasure and a feel-good movie! Leaves you smiling and feeling all is right with the world.

Dirty Dancing (1987)
Staring: Jennifer Grey, Patrick Swayze Director: Emile Ardolino

Every time I see the “new” Jennifer Grey I don’t recognize her as Baby—she’s gotten her nose done and doesn’t look a thing like the Baby I know. This is one movie that combines dancing, romance, sexuality, sensuality, and good-old-fashioned campy fun into a movie that takes you on an emotionally roller coaster. Great characters surround the leads and all mix nicely for a movie that has a place on my DVD shelf!

Moulin Rouge (2001)
Starring: Nicole Kidman, Ewan McGregor Director: Baz Luhrmann

A love story to die for—literally! While some might find it too corny, I love every minute of it! The music is intoxicating, the love story divine, and the duets pull you in and make you hope that their love will take them into the future. When Ewan sings in Nicole’s arms the sparks fly!

Evita (1996)
Starring: Madonna, Antonio Banderas Director: Alan Parker

The intense life story of Ava Perone—the love of the people, the crimes committed, the emotion that rips through this movie is incredible. Antonio plays his parts with brilliance and I forgot I was watching Madonna very early on—she was believable, loveable, and despicable all at the same time. The music is so outstanding—each piece perfect. “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” is so powerful and moving.

Much Ado About Nothing (1993)
Starring: Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson Director: Kenneth Branagh

"as merry as the day is long." I could look at, listen to, and dream about Kenneth Branagh all day long….he’s what I would call a nearly-perfect man. This is a beautiful movie—at times you’ll laugh, cry, and shout at the screen! The chemistry between Emma & Kenneth is amazing.

Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994)
Starring: Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell Director: Mike Newell

My first taste of Hugh Grant. Ok. There was that ugly thing in Hollywood, and he really is just Hugh Grant playing Hugh Grant, but this is a chick flick list and this one clearly qualifies! I love Andie MadDowell so putting her with Hugh meant and instant hit for me.

Other’s that I’d take if there was more room on the list:

Sex, Lies & Video Tape
Moonstruck
Better Than Chocolate
Roxanne
You’ve Got Mail
Notting Hill
The American President
Jungle Fever
West Side Story

Ok, so I love them all!
