A below average review of a below average CD player.

Pros:cheap
Cons:the CD player itself
The Bottom Line: I guess it's good if you only need it for one night or something. But other than that, STAY AWAY.

The GPX C-3853.The first portable CD player I’ve ever had. Well, legally, anyway. And it was probably the worst I’ve ever had, too. Come on, is it that hard to actually make it last for more than a month? Well, anyway, here’s my review one of the worst CD players ever, the GPX C-3853.

SOUND

This was the only decent thing about this product. It did have some OK sound quality, but only when you used the adapter, which sort of erases the purpose of a ‘portable’ CD player. It can get pretty annoying when the loudest it can get is the half the maximum volume of the CD player at home. The mega bass port doesn’t do much either, as all it does is distort the quality of the sound even more.

3/10 rating

PRICE

For twenty-five bucks, this is the cheapest you can get. I saw some actually decent CD players for around fifty bucks, and the only reason I got this one was because it was cheap. Trust me, you can get a lot more ‘bang for the buck’ on anything but this one. In the long run, it’s better to spend a little more on maybe a SONY or something.

5/10 rating.

HEADPHONES

Actually, you know what, forget the price part. You’ll have to dish out even more to buy a decent pair of headphones to go with the GPX C-3853. The headphones that come with it, you might as well throw away. They’re just two pieces of foam connected by a wire that cost maybe a cent to make. So buy some headphones while you’re at the store, too.

2/10 rating.

FEATURES

Just your standard CD player feature package, without the anti-skip. It has a ‘program’ button that’s a little hard to figure out, and a ‘repeat’ button that can be a little useful if you really like a song and want to hear it over and over (and over) again. It has a switch that lets you turn on the mega bass, but like I said, it doesn’t work that well. Then of course, there’s ‘stop’ and ‘open’ and ‘play/pause’, but those aren’t really features.

5/10. Could’ve definitely used the anti-skip.

PORTABILITY

Yet another thing for me to gripe about. Sure, this thing will work when you let it loose from the adapter. But every time you even touch the cover, it will skip. Seriously. I was riding on the bus one time, and the thing skipped just because we hit a bump. And one time my finger just tapped the cover, and it started over! What the heck is with that?

2/10 rating.

BATTERY LIFE

This is the thing that really let me down. It takes four batteries! FOUR BATTERIES! By the time you replace the batteries over, say, five or six months, you could’ve saved that money and probably bought another CD player, one that actually takes two batteries. And plus, it uses those four batteries like John Candy (God rest his soul) eats (well, ate) Big Macs! You can’t go two hours without seeing that little flashing symbol with a battery that’s all white with a little bit shaded in, representing the power you have left. Totally worthless here, folks.

1/10 rating.

OVERALL

Folks, just trust me and buy something that costs more. There’s no way it can be any worse than this one. Maybe get a SONY or something, that’s the one I have, and it’s worked pretty well. Just stay away from this one unless you REALLY need a portable CD player, and don’t have much money.

OVERALL RATING: 3/10
