The Bottom Line No, this is NOT my write-off entry -- Ha!! -- this is merely another porn review. More soulful thoughts will be presented by Feb. 14.......
Note: this is a review of an adult film. Discretion is advised...... and comments are welcome!! Partners Forever is an adult film starring Temptress, Alexa, Randy Spears, and a few other notables of the adult industry. The film is, well, quite ridiculous, but considering that its an adult picture, it at least manages to try something other than the same old bump and grind, even if those something-other-than elements seem suspiciously derivative. Randy Spears and Temptress both play cops, and enjoy a good professional relationship. Nothing sexual, mind you --- they merely get along very well as a result of always being together on the job; Spears character confides in Temptress about his desire to start a family with his wife (Alexa), even though they have been trying for months to conceive (we see some of their valiant efforts during the opening credits.......) They are called to check out a building during the middle of the evening. As Temptress stakes out one half of the territory, she hears gunshots -- Spears character has been shot. She runs to him and radios for help, but it is too late --- he dies in her arms. A year has past. Temptress goes to Alexas house to console her during this somber anniversary. But Alexa already has a new boyfriend, who by all accounts is a real jerk (although we dont really get enough of his apparent jerk attitude on-screen) -- Temptress isnt too happy about this development, although Alexas reasoning is simply that she cant be alone forever. Moments later, Temptress sees something really weird -- its the dead cop, speaking to her. Naturally, the woman is freaked out, and runs out of the house. Later on, the ghost comes back, and tells her what the real scoop is -- something about, if a guy dies unexpectedly, he gets to have a chance to fix things up before fully entering the afterlife, and, since Temptress was the last person to see him before his death, she is his link to the real world. Also, the ghost reveals that the killer was Alexas new boyfriend, also a cop on the force, who had him killed because he was about to testify at an Internal Affairs investigation -- or something like that (adult scripts arent exactly very detailed.....) So naturally, Temptress has to dig up some dirt, without getting caught, or perhaps killed..... Now, adult movies are pretty bad, and Partners Forever isnt exactly going to win any awards for brilliant writing. But if you really want to see an adult film, I can understand if you would want to pick this one. Yesterday, I decided to have a little chat with the guy at the counter at the local sex shop where I rented this thing, and he said that this was actually their most popular title. The sex shop here in my home town (http://www.afternoondelight.net if you care to know) is notable for having an actual couples section (the adult rooms of the video stores around here merely supply the usual junk, and dont seem to be couples-friendly), and the films themselves are rated by the staff on how suitable they are for couples, or women. This film got the full five-star rating, which specifies that there is an actual plot, and some care taken in the project, besides all the sex scenes. Yes, there is an actual plot! Amazing!! Actually, this plot is better than the plots of all the other XXX films Ive reviewed, although still far, far, from perfect. Interestingly enough, most of the sex actually fits the plot -- especially a fairly clever scene in which Temptress, possessed by Spears spirit, has sex with Alexa (she tells her to think of this as one final goodbye from Spears). The film cuts back and forth between the two women, and Alexa with Spears. You actually get two sex scenes for the price of one, while being able to cover up your lewd interest by saying that this is part of the story, dear! The guy also said that he saw this film as a rip-off of Ghost, the Demi Moore-Patrick Swayse film. While Ive not seen that film, Ive recall hearing about certain bits of that film to guess that there was probably some truth to the statement. The actors will never get genuinely good parts, but at least Spears and Temptress (the two who have the most screen time) can actually recite dialogue. Ive seen far worse acting in those Candida Royalle films. Considering that this is an adult movie, nobody really embarrasses themselves. Temptress (what a name!) is a great gal, thats what I think! She actually looks natural, without silicone or anything else, yet is a beauty. She doesnt look like a fake -- she has a normal body, yet is still attractive, and creates some erotic moments. It also helps that she plays a sympathetic character, and is the heroine of the piece -- her character is treated as an equal, not an inferior. Temptress is no great shakes as an actress, but her character is not treated any differently from the male cops. The idea is to show that the two police protagonists are close, professionally and emotionally -- and, later on, of course, sexually -- so its suitable that the movie tries to make us feel good thoughts about these people as people. Ive discovered that, so far, there are really only two things that I do not like about hardcore movies, when it comes to the sex. One is the gratuitous close-ups of genitals in action -- it looks so impersonal. I dont mind that the sex is real, or even if the shots show penetration, etc., etc. But a tight close-up of these clinical things just turns me off. It doesnt necessarily repel me enough to look away -- but the sight of this is so ridiculous. To me, its more sexy to see the faces and bodies expressing their pleasure, rather than to see body parts going at it. It looks so tacky. The second thing is when it gets really nasty, and we start to see anal sex. It looks so painful, and is pretty gross, especially, again, with those tight close-ups. But that could say more about me than anything else -- in any case, I had to look away occasionally. I suppose we all have our taboos, and hang-ups, so this must be one of mine. I must bring up the subject again, as the final sex scene includes this, and is the only sex scene that is truly gratuitous and in bad taste; Alexas new boyfriend is having sex with another woman. This woman has no purpose in the storyline except for this sex scene (although I suppose indirectly her purpose is to show that this guy is a real swine) -- and the woman projects a porn stereotype in that she willingly makes sex look dirty. She gets herself involved in numerous examples of anal activity, and her calls of F-ck me like the b*tch that I am! and so on kind of spoil the mood, I would think. I dont really know what is so sexy about making yourself out to be a lower form of being when engaged in the sexual act. While all of the other scenes are very raw, they dont descend to degradation. I cant really rate this film as I would a real film, of course. But I think a couple that is interested in adult films could do far worse than this. While the sex is fairly raw, most of the scenes are in the context of, at least, a basic emotional investment -- the last sex scene is the only one that I would consider purely carnal and without any emotion or romance. There is an actual storyline, even if derivative and sketchy, and the script wants us to feel something for Spears and Temptress, besides the usual carnal impulses. As an adult film, Partners Forever is certainly tolerable. |
