The Bottom Line Just read the article
Oh my, just like a bad high school drama, the past few weeks have become an esuing battle of who trusts who. Throughout it all I wonder.... Why does it freaking matter? Honestly, I'll be here going on 2 years come this October, and my WOT is under 50...which by many an EP standard is pathetically low. Now I'll never get that fat $10 check or see my name pop up in a search engine for "catzmit." But do I care? Absolutely not. Will I have some objection to you adding me to yours? Odds are, probably not. Will I add you to mine? Well, that depends. My standards of merit are a little quirky. If you write good, solid reviews...you might be a future victim. Do you write really really funny reviews that are also helpful as well as amuse and horrify? Then I can almost promise you'll be on there in the near future. Can you make me interested in things outside my usual categories like a wrench or breast pump? Then watch out! I always viewed the WOT as a tool to show off people who I thought made great contributions to the site. Let's face it, EP might really be a "consumer site" but it's really a big writing circle, or at least that's how I've seen it evolve. I'm proud that everyone on my WOT has done something to merit them being on there. Yes, I know I trust more people than trust me, but those in that disproportional 5 have earned their way on there through really well written reviews and humor...and quite frankly, if they never add me to theirs, then so be it. I'm not a big fan of playing the clicky clicky you scratch my back, I scratch yours game. If by the time I quit EP, I only have 50 or so people who trust me, then that's just how it is...but I'd like to think that somewhere along the way, the people who trust me thought along the same lines I did. I love this site, I've met a lot of great new people, and get to do a lot of good writing along the way, that's worth more to me than an ungodly sized WOT. End rant
