Re: you need to get a clue (Reply to this comment)

****I was just looking back at your predictions....they are horrible. I have never got more than one wrong on the big six categories...****
I'm not sure that being able to predict which movie or performance will undeservedly win an award is absolutely something to brag about, but I understand Vegas will take bets on it, so more power to you.
****to say that you didn't feel anything for catherine zeta jones' performance is an outrage! She is the most amazing part of that movie.****
Well, maybe she is, but being the most amazing part of that over-hyped, soon-to-be-utterly-forgotten movie is rather faint praise.
****Perhaps you should about what you are talking about before you open your mouth, let alone write it down on paper.****
Possibly. And of course, as we all know, your not agreeing with me is absolute proof that I don't know what I'm talking about.

Just a question...Did you actually SEE "Spirited Away?" It had only 18 screens here....and a small town would never have it!..But it is being released for DVD 4/15.

...I've been watching and thinking. I have. It's so much fun - seeking out all those nominated flicks (half of them will be at our theatres in two or three months only). But, I'm almost through now, SO - I'll post my Oscar predictions on Tuesday or on Wednesday!!! Please check, I bet you're gonna have some fun :p
Oh, and I don't disagree with you that much on these already ;)
cheers

Well, it is actually, but did you see those other choices?
I'm not sure I've got the question down, but there is a spot to post new reviews.

Great choices!
Ok, I'll say it. WHY, WHY, WHY - LOTR II? It's good, but is it that good? Ahem.
Daniel Day Lewis was good, great pick in that category! Tom Hanks wasn't that bad either.. Julliane Moore? Well, she is good of course.
May I ask you one question off topic: can one post his Epinion movie reviews at the Epinion movie board (or do I have to write new reviews on the same movies - I've just registered)? Thanks.
Great job as always. Chicago will have it. Ugh.
Take care

Fairly wonderful really.
Now, come on. Nothing about 'Unfaithful' deserves to be nominated for anything. ;)

I wouldn't exactly be surprised if it didn't win either, the Academy Awards being as basically useless as they are, but I think it will.

No, I certainly don't think that what should really win is among the nominees in all, or even most, cases. Perhaps I should have made it more clear that what I meant was what should win if the nominees are the only choices for what possibly can win, which they are.

How did I not know Latifah was nominated? How wonderful?
Actually Diane Lane's work in Unfaithful is astonishing. She deserves that nomination...I think that Nicole will win.
nice work

Sen has no chance (Reply to this comment)
by mfunk75
Marc,
None of these movies have any real business being nominated except Spirited Away, apart from the mere fact that they are animated films. It will and should win.
Actually, I suspect the lovely and lush Spirited Away was only included because of the embarrassment Oscar felt last year, leaving Waking Life off in favour of Jimmy Neutron. SA of course should win, but I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't.
I was going to respond to many of your other "picks", but then I figured I'd save my precious thoughts for my own article.

No offense, man... (Reply to this comment)
by Mr.Eyore
but I expected to see a little more discussion about, you know, WHY you thought certain things deserved to win, and why you thought other would win.
More importantly, I don't think I noticed any choices in the "should" category, that weren't actually nominated. Do you really think, in each category, that the most deserving got nominated in each case?

spell check--did you mean "throw in" or "thrown in" in the last section (Reply to this comment)
by Vormancian
Actually, I meant 'thrown in'. If there is an error in text it is the lack of a comma.
Now, come on. You know why it was snide.
If you want to go about with your odd comments, that's fine with me, but don't pretend you aren't doing it. That just makes you look silly(er).

I like him for a nod for Actor as well, but as you say, that sort of thing isn't in the realm of possibility.
Well, I don't want to win any bets, but I did pick 'Chicago' for will win in all the things I think aren't pushing things too far. You're right, the hype is let loose and running free.
Cheers!

Screenplays (Reply to this comment)
by Stephen_Murray, in Movies
Leaving aside my many disagreements in other categories, I think the screenplay for "Y tu mama tambien" is a deserved if unexpected one. I'm puzzled why "Gangs" is not an adapted one, in that it is based on the book of the same name, albeit very loosely.

Kathy... I agree that Two Towers should just sweep the board and win everything! Nothing compares to it. but.. it won't. :/
Now, what's up with the snide spell check comment? This doesn't sound the same person I've been emailing back and forth with at all....
Marc didn't deserve that. :/

... (Reply to this comment)
by lemon_lime
first off,
I will say that I like About A Boy getting nominated.
my feelings exactly. thank god someone in the academy noticed how great this film was - i would even push it a bit and say grant should have been nominated for best actor - but you know they don't give those awards to 'not serious' performances, god forbid to a comedic actor in an actually good AND funny film.
secondly, I'm afraid if you wanna win any bets this year, you'll have to with Chicago for most things. They Chicago hype machine is loose and out of control, and miramax will read it all the way through. not that it's a bad film, just that it's getting a bit too much attention methinks.
anyways, good read.
