The Bottom Line The call has remained unchanged over the eons...only the methodology and tools have evolved...
Lure The room is large and devoid of life, except for you, me, and the distance. Your gaze is buried in one of those books that you always bring when you come here to sit shoulders hunch unmoving, still through the teasing from tousled raven locks heedless of gravity. I have sat on the cold bench in silence too long already; I begin a song, avoiding the ivory entirely, never straying from the black keys, notes slowly falling with the patience of autumn rain, their cool tonic ring breathing magic. The distance fills with the amber croon and your dark eyes lift in question as if recognizing their ebony kin. I concentrate on the melody, feigning confidence and indifference. You place your studied pages on the table and begin the long stroll across the floor. The distance thins, disappears, and as you arrive to watch from the side, the only life that remains in the room consists of you and I. You settle on the bench beside me, unaware that you did not initiate this encounter, or that my music is a desperate and calculated plea, a pipers song to draw you near when words would not suffice. _____________ As always, comments and constructive criticism are welcome... |
