The subtitle of this novel is "A Scientific Romance". If you are looking for a novel about Albert Einstein's personal life, this is not the book you should pick up. This novel only marginally discusses Einstein's love life, the scientific romance in this case is Einstein's infatuation *with* science and the scientific method. This is certainly a biography of Einstein, it discusses his life in a linear fashion from his early school days, his University days (and his reputation as a bit of a rebel) through his time spent as a patent clerk and on to his life in Academia. However, the biography is only the spine of the novel. What you really get with this novel is an unfolding of the scientific process. How Einstein came up with his ideas about the theory of relativity and how the scientific community worked together to blend a series of different questions into the modern notions of atomic theory, quantum theory, relativity and non-Euclidean geometry. If you are a scientist or are interested in scientific theory, this novel is a stunning read. Much of the science is tough and mind-bending, but it is explained well enough to get the gist across even to non-scientists.
