For all the kind and encouraging comments left on this review. I don't know why I didn't share my experience sooner, but know that I am glad that many will find this helpful in their trials and tribulations with this scary disease that affects so many children's ability to breathe.

do not allow anyone to smoke around you or in your home, no matter how cold it is outdoors.
My husband's sisters think that since they smoked outside they did a good thing. Matt's nephew and great nephew have asthma. When my husband's sisters come back in the house, they smell like smoke. They don't notice it, but as a non-smoker, it drives me nuts. Then they go over and pick up and hang out with the kids and they bring the smell with them. A lot of people don't realize this. :(
Great review, MT!!

As an asthma sufferer myself, I appreciate the detail and clarity in this review. Asthma is definitely something you can learn to live with without having to sacrifice quality of life.

Hi hon - (Reply to this comment)

Colin only, thankfully, has infrequent asthma, flaring up whenever he gets a cold or infection. It's stressful enough, I cannot imagine how you'd do it on a daily basis. I wish you had written this review earlier - I know it will be of help to many, many parents-

Great Info (Reply to this comment)
by toospoiled
Thanks so much for writing this very informative piece. I would rate it MH if I had the button.
My son has what they call exercised-induced asthma, so we know the trigger. However, it still scares me when he has an attack, but you gave the best advice about not freaking out. We have to remain calm for them and that really does help them get through the attack.
This is a great piece with wonderful information that everyone can use and everyone should read. Seems that the number of asthma cases have gone up sharply in the last couple years and we all need to be informed on what to do and not to do if our child has an attack.
Thanks for sharing your story.
Great Job,
Karen :-)

Super Review (Reply to this comment)

Being a dad of a child with Asthma I have been through the late night ER visits and I can say it was a very scary time for us. Shortly after the first time she was diagnosed with Asthma and she was prescribed a fast acting inhaler. Now she is on Flowvent daily inhaler and she hasn't had a serious attack since she started it. We haven't had to buy the nebulizer yet and I hope we can avoid that expense.
Until we learned about the triggers to Alicia's asthma we had no idea how to avoid things that can bring on an Asthma attack. Your review is filled with great information that will help any parent that has just learned that their child has asthma.
Congrats on your 300th review :)

I am an asthmatic too (Reply to this comment)

I went through a horrible time in school and getting excused from gym class. Turned out I was allergic to all animals, grass and stuffed animals.
Going to sleepovers in 6-9th grade I had to make sure no pets, bring my own pillows and blanket and look out for feather pillows and down comforters.
I just read a review over the weekend on a personal air machine to hook around the neck for about $80 and might be getting that. Will help when outside among the pollutants that wreak havoc on our systems.
Just several years ago I was put through serious BS by my family (lived for a few months at parents house after leaving ex) and was pregnant, I was told the dogs were not leaving and I had two sprays I carried around when pregnant and a peak flow meter and my mother informed me I could not keep my spray at the table on Thanksgiving.
My room was on the third floor and winding stairways and I never knew If I would make it to get my spray so hid it in my pants pocket.
We are no longer on speaking terms. As an ex nurse she clearly does not get asthma and has no clue about autism. My children are better off without those people.
Thanks for letting me get that off my chest! I can breathe easier when going to bed. Of course the scariest thing was after living in the rental house we are at (almost five years) the first year I was told by neighbors that the mother who was my age had a fatal asthma attack, she died at hospital after 911 brought her there.
I slept with my inhaler in my hand for days after learning of that.
