| ss3goku's Full Review: Sony Glasstron |
I always found technology to be an impressive thing, and looking back at the history of television, it's hard to know what the next step will be; at least it was for me. Just recently were we introduced to HDTV format television and television that have the same thickness as a picture frame. But lets face reality, while those wonderful things cost up to thousands of dollars, I won't be able to afford one any time soon, but thankfully due to a local store going out of business, I was able to snatch up something better for the a low low cost. This was none other then the Sony Glasstron, and while I had some doubts on my way home on how it performed, I was still hoping to be amazed and proud of owning one, and after enjoying countless shows, movies, and video games with this, I am glad to say that I was.
The Sony Glasstron claims to place you in what seems to be a 52 inch television screen when standing 6.6 feet away, course when I slipped the Glasstron on for the first time, I thought I was suckered because all I saw was a miniature 2"x2" screen, still I had some hope for this product (after all, I had to keep it either way) after I finished the set up, which is quite easy to do, took me mere minutes, even thought there were more cords then I would have expected, but luckily I was able to hide the wires behind my furniture.
And then it was show time, with the push of the button I was tuned in to what my television was airing, and it was incredible, everything that I owned worked with the Sony Glasstron in ease, such as my television, and game systems. While the resolution may not be so rich when watching TV, I was not to disappoint, because after all, I was watching it through a pair of glasses! However, playing my game systems was a real treat, when playing sports games it appeared as if I were in the dugout or on the benches as my favorite teams were going at it, or with wrestling games, it appeared as if I were right at the mat, the actions was right in front of my face, but my favorite of the bunch were first person shooters, course playing on a computer or television screen is nice, but with the Glasstron, it gave me the ability to think I was in the arena holding a rail gun, making me almost break a sweat when I was running for my life. Overall, the appearance is like playing a virtual reality system with rich stereo sound (thanks to the equipped headphones), and I couldn't be happier, but still with every product there are some faults and the Sony Glasstron does carry a few.
First of all, the Sony Glasstron is not to portable and free moving when you have to connect up to three separate cords to enjoy a movie or video game, but if your like me, and have a way to work around it so people don't trip on the loose cords, then you can work around it. And another thing, the Sony Glasstron itself left me with to much space to see what was going outside from the screen, I could easily glance to the sides of my room with ease, ruining the effect that I was actually viewing a 52 inch screen, but again this can be solved by placing a dark colored shirt over your head (expect to be laughed at) or use the Sony Glasstron in the evening with as little lighting as possible. But my biggest complaint is that the nose piece used to balance the weight of the Glasstron (which is very light actually) can irritate your nose in half an hour, but the more you use it, the more you get used to it, still it shouldn't be a problem to begin with.
Still, am I happy I own a Sony Glasstron? Yes, while there may be a few things that make this a perfect item to own, it's a great start, and I know that for what I got it for ($300.00) I cant complain to much. So if your able to pick one up at a reasonable cost, then I recommend you do, because this really is a great thing to own and when you want to experience that movie theater experience with your favorite television show or movie, or maybe just to play your favorite games in a wide screen format. No matter what the reason shall be, I see that most people, such as myself will enjoy it.
