What a difference a higher price makes! After researching terms and conditions at the steep discount stores and being too afraid to order or actually ordering from those stores and getting nothing but grief, I decided to go a bit upscale with PC Connection. Their prices are a little higher, but that's what it costs to be able to honor warranties and returns and to have real customer service.
I placed my order on line for a Sony KDL-40XBR2 LCD TV. The process was easy and all costs were displayed, although the item was listed as backordered. The next day, someone from PC Connection called asking that I return the call and confirm my credit card info. This is exactly the ploy the steep discounters make trying to submit you to a high-pressure sales pitch.
In this case, my fears were unfounded. The toll-free number got me straight to a credit-only rep on the first ring. My card info was verified in a minute and that was it.
A day later I received email that my order shipped. Two days after that, the freight company called to arrange delivery. On the third day, my order was delivered in perfect condition.
Don't reward the steep discounters' bad service with your order; pay a little more and support an ethical business model.
