Occasionally I purchase books, CDs and DVDs from Amazon.com. When I buy new, the service is usually as it says, and I get my shipment during the time frame that is given.
However, the two times I've purchased used books, I've had terrible experiences. I think the local booksellers need to be more accountable somehow, or better policed by Amazon in terms of providing good service under the Amazon name.
Both times I tried ordering used books, I ordered from booksellers that were not more than a few states away (i.e. I'm in VA, and ordered from PA). The first time I bought two used books, and one never ever came. Never. I emailed the bookseller asking about it with all my order confirmation information and never got a response. I gave up since they didn't charge me.
The second time was this past November '06. I ordered two used books for my mother that she wanted for her book club. One showed up as late as it could possibly arrive, and the other never came. Again, I emailed the used bookseller asking about the status and received no response. I emailed again. No response. I left public and negative feedback about the bookseller on Amazon, then emailed the bookseller again. I finally got a nasty response about 3 weeks after I placed the order, saying that he/she had a family crisis and to please be patient. I do have feelings, but this is also business, and I emailed back and said to please cancel my order... the book club had already reviewed the book I was trying to get for my mother!
