My husband and I usually make reservations at Hampton Inn or Comfort Inn, but this summer, we took a trip to Nashville,TN with my parents. They aren’t really into making reservations. They like to show up in a tourist town, and hope that there is a vacant room available somewhere. My dad likes to “find the best deal.” So, I picked up a Travel Discount Guide which offers discounts to travelers who like to find a hotel at the last minute. The first hotel we found was Baymont Inns and Suites just off the interstate.
Room Rates
My dad went in to check the room rate. About $84 per night was what he was told, so he flashed the discount coupon, and took the room. We did the same. The coupon provided a discounted room rate of $54.99 per night Sunday through Wednesday, and $49.99 Thursday through Sunday. (Most coupons were the opposite, offering the lower room rates Sunday through Wednesday. )
The Room Itself
The room was pretty clean. It was stocked with a hair dryer, iron and ironing board, and coffee maker. Just inside the door, to the left, was the sink. On the sink sat the coffee maker, toiletries, ice bucket, and cups. The shower and toilet were on the left side, just inside the door. I don’t drink coffee, but I was glad to see that the coffee maker wasn’t sitting next to the commode like in other hotels I’ve been in. The shower had a massager with 5 positions. This came in handy for me after I took a swim in the pool, and pulled a shoulder muscle. There was a night stand beside the bed. Across the room was a table and chair, a dresser, and another larger chair. The TV was positioned on the edge of the dresser directly in front of the bed.
Service and Stuff
The staff was friendly. The hotel was clean, and nicely decorated with pictures and plants. There was parking all around the building. The key card was required to get in and out of the building. The key was also required to get into the pool area, or you could just stick your arm through the rails, and open the gate with the door latch.
The hotel offers a continental breakfast, which for me was Smart Start cereal and orange juice. Waffles, danishes, toast, and other cereals were also available in a nice dining room on the first floor. We thought we were lucky to be on the first floor near the food, but there was no ice machine on the first floor with the vending machines. I had to send my husband to the second floor for ice first thing each morning!
We had Showtime, and a few other cable channels. We didn’t watch much TV, but there wasn‘t much to choose from anyway. Showtime is my least favorite movie channel. Movies were available for about $10 each. Unless you’re just desperate for a movie while on vacation, I think that is outrageous. Who needs TV, though, when they offer everyone a free USA today paper?
Shortly after we arrived, a housekeeper came by to make sure we had enough towels and washcloths. Fortunately, the housekeepers didn’t come by to clean the rooms until later in the day. I hate when they come knocking at 8:00 a.m.
Should you stay there?
Baymont Inns and Suites is a pretty nice hotel. Personlly, I prefer Hampton Inn or most of the Choice hotels. I would not stay there again without a travel coupon. I don’t think it would be worth the regular rate. There are nicer hotels for about the same rate. However, if it‘s convenient to where you want to be, and there‘s not much else available; go ahead and check it out.
