The Bottom Line The bottom line is quite simple. It depends on your taste. Nothing is better than the other overall.
Let me state that I own a Power Mac G4 with GeForce 2 MX (yes that's a very old graphics card) and my sister has a Pentium 4 processor with GeForce 4 MX. I've experimented fully with both and I got the highest grade in my class on a standardized computer knowledge test. Actually it had more PC questions than Mac questions but that's besides the point hehe. The Average Joe The average Joe would spend his day chatting or surfing the web. Nothing that requires godlike processor speed. If all you do is browse the web, then the PC is for you. They're affordable and with some assistance, you can be set up in a few minutes, ready to surf the web if you already have internet service. The 1337 Gamers Games are one of the biggest reasons on why children these days ask for a computer. Both platforms, both Mac and PC, have enough games to have your child vegetate after the addiction takes over. But PCs have more games. Most of them are ported to the Mac but if they don't come out simultaneously with the PC version, you can expect to wait a good month or two before the Mac version comes out. Some games take years to be ported to the Mac. The one advantage Macs have in this field is that the graphics are sharper than the PC if you own the right equipment. That means a good graphics card with a decent monitor. Multimedia People If you use Adobe Photoshop or Dreamweaver MX everyday of your life then Macs are for you. PCs also have these titles but Macs are the leaders in graphics. Whether it be editting or DVD making, Macs are equipped to take on any graphic obstacle thrown at them. It is a known fact that most movies, if not all, are done with Macs. For example, Toy Story and Monsters Inc. are both made by Pixar and Disney. Pixar is owned by Steve Jobs, founder of Apple, and uses only Macs to get their jobs done. This is why you see mostly Macs on TV, the movies, or commercials. They basically take something they own (so they don't have to buy a new computer for this one time scene) and shoot the scene with the computer in it. Since Macs are what most media companies own and use, that's what shows up most. Office Workers I declare this one neutral. Most office work is done via Microsoft Office, which includes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Powerpoint. These are also sold for the Mac and in fact, the Macintosh version has more features and is more advanced than the PC version. The problem with using Macs is that most people own PCs and have only used PCs. Some people are just not flexible enough to even try to understand how a Mac works. It's not hard but the stubborn employee will insist that Macs are too hard. The Computer Novice In this day and age, where everyone has a computer, you will feel left out if you don't know how to operate a computer, whether it be Mac or PC. But studies and testimonials state that Mac is the easier one to figure out. One study found that an average 15 year old boy set up a Mac faster than an editor of a PC magazine. The boy had never set up Macs before. Everything comes preinstalled, like the OS (Operating System), which is essential. The graphic user interface is so easy to understand that you will be able to know what to do by just looking at it. But I must state that Macs are different from PCs and unless you are open-minded, you will probably think that Macs are so much harder than PCs. Keep an open mind and actually try to understand. Then, you'll agree that the Mac is the easier piece of machinery. |
