Pros:Pretty colored lights and nice fragrances.
Cons:The dial to adjust fragrance should be more prominent.
The Bottom Line: This is a great little product. You get both a nightlight, and continuous air freshening. But start at minimum fragrance, and work your way up to find your comfort level.
I like to keep my home smelling nice. And, my husband loves nightlights. One product meets both of our needs.
The Air Wick Scented Oil Warmer is a little device that you plug into any ordinary outlet. You insert a bottle of scented oil, and enjoy wonderful fragrance, as the oil continuously heats. The oils come in many colors and fragrances. My favorite is called "Calming Magnolia & Cherry Blossom". It smells sweet & flowery.
In addition to the fragrance, there's a nightlight built into the device. The light is actually very bright, and is situated behind the bottle of oil. So you get colored light, depending upon the color of the oil. This particular fragrance comes in a light pink oil. Others come in light blue, green, purple, orange and clear.
How do you use it?
Remove the cap from the bottle of oil. Then slide it upright into the holder. You will hear it click into place. Once inserted, the bottle will not fall out. In fact, to remove it, you have to give a pretty good tug on it.
Plug the device into an outlet. The device must always be upright and vertical (or the oil will spill). Conveniently, the plug rotates 90 degrees to accommodate outlets in any direction.
There is a dial on the top of the device to set the strength of the fragrance. This fact escaped me until recently. And no wonder - the device is white. On top are 5 white dots. There's an arrow (also white) that can be rotated to point to one of the dots. As you move the arrow, the strength of the fragrance changes. The smallest dot represents "minimum" and the largest dot represents "maximum".
I really wish the dial had been a whole lot more obvious than it is. Tiny white dots, on a white device just don't stand out enough. Why is this so important? Recently, my cleaning lady moved the dial to maximum. When I came home that day, I noticed how strong the smell was, but didn't think anything of it. Then I started to feel like I was choking. My eyes became itchy, and I was constantly coughing. I ended up unplugging the device, and planned to stop using it. That's when I finally saw the dial on top. I set it back to "minimum" and it's been fine ever since. Take this as a warning - the fragrances are STRONG when set to maximum.
One other warning - the device gets hot to the touch. Especially at the top where the hole is.
Final Thoughts
I love the fragrance (now that I've set the device to "minimum"). And I have to admit, the colored lights are really nice. I recommend this product for any home that needs a fresh scent and a bit of extra light. For just a few bucks, you can have both in one product.
***2010 update*** I still think this is a nice product, and I still recommend it (for people who aren't overy sensitive to scents). But for me, the older I get, the more sensitive I seem to be, and these scents are simply too heavy for me, even on their lowest setting. I've stopped using them, in favor of other products that are more subtle (and therefore kinder to my allergies). ****************
