lol.. Yes the Pinto was notorious for blowing up in slight rear end collisions.

Good info, Liz, as always. However, I'd like to know where you buy Valvoline synthetic oil for $4.25 a gallon... it costs that much for a quart around here!

Like the pearl-drum-man, I'm a big believer in flushing/bleeding the brake fluid every two years. You will definitely reduce the life of your major brake system components (master cylinder and wheel cylinders) by ignoring the brake fluid. Tainted brake fluid (usually fouled with moisture from the atmosphere) will cause the brake fluid to boil under heavy braking... very bad for stopping distances!

Some mechanics whose opinion I respect do not like platinum spark plugs, but I think they're great. I'm not sure why they don't like them.

Good info in nice-sized bites... thanks!

*giggle*...

wasn't that the car that blew up cause of its gas tank? I think my friend's mom used to drive us to school in one of those!

. . . very good advice. This coming from a girl who once went 10,000 miles without an oil change. Let's just say, I never did that again.

Gotta due an oil change this week, and will be doing the tranny fluid and coolant this spring before my next trip out to CO.

Most people know to change their oil, but they totally neglect the other fluids. If you read your owner's manual you'll see a detailed maintenance plan for all those fluids. Though more ambitious, it's also a good idea to change the brake fluid periodically.
