I liked the guide (Reply to this comment)
by Ida-chan
That was a nice guide. I'd fall under a gamer. I have all the Sega consoles as well as a GameCube and the majority of them are Sonic games. :-P

Most excellent guide, looks like I'm a three way hybrid between old-school, gamer and genre. I love my NES, Atari and SNES I really do.
Thanks for the chuckle Rock_On. :)

I loved your guide, and it was surely 100% accurate. I'm ashamed to say that I would have to fall into the "hardcore" category. This is because I do 3 things in life: work at a dead-end lousy job with good pay, watch movies, and play video games. My life is spent about 35% working, 15% watching movies and 50% playing video games. As unbalanced as this may be, it's true. I've been into video games since I can remember, having no girlfriend save for Samus Aran, until the age of 19, and spending my time doing "Homework" while giving Mario one heck of a pain in his knuckles.
Sadly, I am put into the fanboy category by my peers because I've always preferred the Nintendo systems to anything else, irrigardless of whether I do or do not bash other consoles. And finally, you're right about the female gamer population. The reason this is, is mainly because of the way games are made: they hardly ever make games with feminine lead roles, and Peach is an overall embarassment to female gamers. Natalie, whom I live with, is also a social outcast who plays games as much, if not more than I do, so being around me and my household isn't a place you want to be if you want to talk about anything besides games. Anyways, loved your guide. Cheers

Fanboys? Multiplying? (Reply to this comment)
by BaronSamedi3
Geez, Rocky, you really DON't remember anything of the 16-bit era, do you?
If anything, fanboys are less prevalent than ever today. Back in the 16-bit era, you either owned a Super NES or Genesis. And you hated the one you didn't own with a firey vengeance. It was a lot like Coke vs. Pepsi.
Pepsi and Sega forever, baby!
Peace!

your comments about gorgeous gamers inspired me to write about this one encounter with a counterstrike chick. I'll try to write that up by tonite.

okay, so based on this formula, I must be a hybrid of a casual gamer and a hardcore gamer. Casual because I hardly play video games anymore. Hardcore because I have a Cerberus FF8 figure on top of my monitor, a Veritech VF-1S Valkyrie painted in a modified Skull Squadron scheme, a Lockheed F-16C painted in Skull Squadron colors, a Grumman F-14D also painted in Skull Squadron, some drawings of Minmei, and my art resembles Jap anime.
So what category am I?

Guess I'm an "old school" and "console" guy, for the most part (although I do waste a lot of time in "128-bit" land). However, consider this -- some console gamers just don't want to mess with gaming on a computer. I still have a Windows POS, and the last game I got required me to download patches and such, which hogged up a lot of time. And, the game? It sucked. So, why bother?
Oh, and I enjoyed the hell out of the editorial, by the way. Loved it, in fact.

LOL (Reply to this comment)

I'm an erratic gamer.. I go thru spells. I started on Gemstone III when it was on AOL and played for 7 years...every day.. for hours. Hell, back in the beginning AOL was by the hour and I sometimes had bills over $700! Crazyness. I was SO glad when they moved to the internet! Now I go back to it once in awhile, but I'm not nearly as obsessed with it as I was back then.
I have PS, PS2, and 5 computers..2 of which were specifically built for gaming. Final Fantasy is an addiction, spent a lot of time in things like The Sims, RCT and now RCT2 though also... and oh my gawd The Sims Online kept me in for 12 hours a day from Oct thru last month when I finally 'hit the wall' with it and moved on....but I also like games like Twisted Metal Black. That game rocks!
And oh yeah.. I started way back with the original Zork. Gads how I loved that game!
Yeesh..I did not intend this comment to become a novel.. LOL!! Great write- up here!

Heh, the racing genre is a pretty big genre that a lot of people stick to, much like RPGs. But that's ok though, a lot of people don't have as much time as others to play as much =)

Video game-esque reviews warm my cold, frigid heart (Reply to this comment)

Chalk me up as a genre gamer (R to tha P tha the homie G).
Some might call me hardcore, but that's a just load of fanboy goat splooge. I'm as casual as it gets. Nevermind the fact that I dumped 35 hours into Xenosaga in a time span of three days.

I guess I'm a casual/passive gamer with a little genre gamer thrown it. I don't stick to just one type of game, but I do play a lot of racing games. :)
Nice review.
