When my son Brandon and his now wife Candy got engaged she knew immediately that she wanted to have their wedding at the Claremont Bed, Dinner And Breakfast Inn. It is a beautiful inn nestled in the small town of Stratton, Colorado. My daughter-in-law knew of the inn as her grandmother did much of the interior design for the inn.
Our original plan was for everyone attending the wedding to make the drive and arrive at the Inn the morning of the wedding, attend the wedding, the reception and the dinner and then return home leaving my son and his new wife to honeymoon as the only guests of the Inn that night. Two days before the wedding we began to realize how that plan was soon to go awry as we got a weather warning that there was a huge snow storm that would be moving into the area the day of the wedding. That did not discourage my daughter-in-law. She and her family made arrangements for everyone to come the day before the wedding and stay at the Inn. Twenty one of us ended up being stranded because of the storm, and all interstates and roads being closed, in this beautiful place for three days and three nights. No one felt sorry for us and we did not even feel sorry for ourselves. We now kid my son and daughter-in-law that they had 19 of their family members and closest friends on their honeymoon. They handled our jokes well although we know they really just wanted us to do the impossible and leave them alone to honeymoon.
Upon arriving we understood the fascination that Candy and her family have with the Inn. It is a beautiful three story building and although it was winter you could tell that it is landscaped beautifully. It sits on a huge lot filled with pretty pine trees.
Since it was the 28 of Dec. as we walked in the front door we were greeted by the presence of two huge decorated Christmas trees. Candy later told us that every ornament on the trees were hand blown. The Christmas trees were at the entrance to the very comfortable lobby that was also decorated for Christmas. The lobby which has a fireplace is filled with couches, chairs, end tables, coffee table, books and artificial flower decorations everywhere.
The Inn has 10 large beautifully decorated guest rooms, the lobby, the kitchen and dining room, a wine cellar where one may dine if they wish, an exercise room filled with exercise equipment, a theatre with lush seats and a movie theater size screen for which to play their DVD collection or you can bring your own DVD collection, and a Jacuzzi on the garden terrace. There is also a golf cart available free of charge for a tour around the grounds or to use at a golf course that is just 5 blocks away.
LOCATION- The Claremont Inn is located conveniently right off Interstate 70 in Stratton, Colorado.
THE ROOMS- Every one of the ten rooms at the Inn have a different theme. They are all beautifully decorated and perfectly clean. Each has its own bathroom, of course. Each room is equipped with a small refrigerator stocked with bottled water and a variety of carbonated drinks, an iron and a blow dryer. Kleenex and glasses and cups are available in each room. If you want ice all you have to do is go to the kitchen and request it. The bathrooms are a nice size and come with two white terry cloth robes, many bright white towels and wash cloths and a pretty basket filled with travel size soaps, shower gels etc. The closet in my room and the ones that I saw in the other rooms were big. Every room had a bed, of course, at least two chairs, a desk, end tables and a TV. When we arrived there was a plate of freshly home baked chocolate chip cookies in each of our rooms. Now you just have to love that. I am not sure if that is a regular amenity or not.
THE FOOD- The food that they fix in this place is to die for. Those guys that fixed our meals can cook. We dined on eggs, sausage, quiche, coffee cake, stuffed french toast, fruit cups and home made from scratch croissants for our breakfasts. For our dinners we had such delicious dishes as pasta, prime rib, twice baked potatoes, pasta, vegetable and chicken soup and chocolate mousse raspberry cake. Wine was available at every dinner.
If you so wish in the mornings they will serve you breakfast in bed or you may go to the dining room. The kitchen is sparkling clean.
For the wedding reception they served us shrimp cocktail, numerous other appetizers, champagne and two punches, one with alcohol and one without alcohol.
THE STAFF- The staff that was there for our weekend could not have been more gracious or accommodating. If you wanted or needed something all you had to do was ask.
THE PRICES- The prices vary by which room you want to occupy, whether you want the room during the week or on the weekend and if you just want the bed and breakfast or the dinner, bed and breakfast. They also have quoted prices for wedding packages, small group packages, romantic get away weekends or renting the entire Inn for a family get together. The best ways to check the prices would be to give them a call (1-888-291-8910) or check the web site for the Claremont Inn which is: http://www.claremontinn.com/
EXTRAS- The Inn also sponsors Murder Mystery Weekends every New Year.
