The Bottom Line Every one of these albums have made a difference in my life. They are all punk gems. Buy 'em now!
These are my current picks for Top 10 Punk Albums of All Time. This list may change in the years to come as I experience more of the never ending world of punk, but this is it for now. 10. Green Day "1039 Smoothed Out Slappy Hours" This is Green Day back when Billie was in high school and his voice was still changing, Tre wasn't in the band yet, and the recording quality absolutely sucked. Nevertheless, Green Day at their most memorable can be found on this 1989 Lookout! Records release. 9. Sex Pistols "Kiss This" A 1992 compilation of most everything the Sex Pistols recorded, the entirety of "Never Mind the Bollocks" and several other tracks. If you listen close, on "Anarchy in the UK" Johnny Rotten sounds almost identical to Wakko from the Animaniacs. 8. Taking Back Sunday "Tell All Your Friends" Now, don't judge before you read my explanation. Pop punk sucks, for the most part, its corporatized crap made for MTV watching poseurs. Here's where TBS comes in and delivers an excellent emo punk pop record that frequents my CD player. The dual vocal combination and excellent lyrics make this an awesome cd, by far the best in its genre. 7. Anti-Flag "Mobilize" Anti-Flag's latest release is definitely their best, featuring 8 new songs, all of which are great, and 8 more of their greatest songs of all time live. The CD also comes with an AF Records sampler. 6. Dead Kennedy's "Frankenchrist" The most notorious of the DK albums, this one is the catchiest, snottiest, funniest, and weirdest of anything they have done. 5. Ramones "Mania" Over 30 of the Ramones best songs, the gems are here, "I Wanna Be Sedated", "Blitzkrieg Bop", "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", making this one of the all time great career spanning compilations from any one band. 4. Rancid "And Out Come The Wolves" What more can be said about this one? Rancid blew away any other punk band in the mid 90's with this album, 18 tracks of ska punk with 50's rock overtones. Anyone in to punk must buy this album. 3. Operation Ivy s/t Holy God, Operation Ivy created ska punk, and to this day no one has done it better than them. Not even Rancid, where guitarist and singer Tim and bass player Matt once played in Op Ivy for its short two year existence. Still, their self titled discography is the best ska punk disc ever, with some of the best punk classics of all time. A must have. 2. The Ramones s/t "Hey Ho, Let's Go!" The Ramones started it all, blistered 3 chords all the way and started the best music genre ever. I'm sorry, but one should never even say the word "punk" if they have never heard of the Ramones. Pure musical genius right here. RIP Joey and Dee Dee. Their s/t debut contains "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend", the Ramones' two best songs ever. 1. Minor Threat "Complete Discography" Ian MacKaye is my hero. Bottom Line. Joey Ramone comes close, but Ian MacKaye indirectly started sXe, was the frontman of the greatest punk band ever, and remained always true to the scene and true to the kids. On to the album, these 26 songs come in at around 40 mins. An abrasive, violent, and hostile record by the band that started hardcore. Minor Threat rules. Buy this disc now! |
