barkj's Full Review: Counter-Strike: Source for Windows
About 4 years ago when they first showed this game, which made me think about it, it confused me because everyone said it was Counter Strike 2. When we were able to finally play the game for beta testing, I was amazed at the graphics and physics the game could process. The game had improved graphics from Counter Strike 1.6, as it also implemented the new physics engine that a normal person wouldn't think was possible for computers.
The game play is about the same but improved to be more realistic. I would have no idea if it's more realistic, but I did like the fact that the bullets do not go through 3 feet of concrete anymore, unlike its counter part Counter Strike 1.6. At first anyone can basically own anyone in the game since everyone was new to it. There were some that were already as good as they were in 1.6 but most were back to being a newbie.
The game now has much more harder people to take down now compared to 3 years ago. The game's features have not improved over these years as much as Counter Strike 1.6 was. They usually only add a map here and there from time to time, but that's about it. They took out a feature that bugged a lot of people; the fact that we can connect to one of another by entering in the console: Connect (your friend's IP). You now have to configure your own server configurations and some times it still does not work. They tell you to use the command: Lan 1, but to no avail, that does not help at all either.
They recently added a new radar function which shows the enemy if he's been seen by a team mate or by you on the radar. Then they completely remodeled the radar to show a mini map that's fixed and clearly identifiable to be able to find any enemies. They recently changed the buying system from just being able to buy your own ammo to having the guns auto buy ammo, which inflates the prices of packages for your gun selection. The M4 package now cost more then an AWP package (the AWP is a one shot kill sniper rifle 90% of the time).
Steam announced, soon, that they'll implement advertisements within the game it self. They plan to post advertisements on giant billboards in the middle of the maps to help advertise their partner companies or games. Besides the fact that they're doing this to gain money, they allow you to download your games anytime you want on any PC that uses your account. Steam already shows advertisements every time you log into steam, I don't see why they'll add it in game.
Imagine your kid killing terrorists as a counter terrorist and then seeing an advertisement for Viagra or Playboy. They'll probably remember those names and research what they are online if they don't already know. I know for a fact that kids play this game, because they like to talk over the internet with a microphone which everyone just laughs at them usually. The game overall is very entertaining and fun to play from time to time. Since they removed some features and added new ones, its still fun to play as you roam around killing other people from around the world.
They also give prize money out to the people that are actually very good that enter CAL (Cyberathletic Amateur League)which is sponsored by different companies, which usually give out different types of prizes. You can also make a name for your self for playing such a game like Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel, which he goes under the name Fatal1ty. He is not the best CS player, but he's the best Quake III player.
