While some of my past experiences with Blockbuster Video have not been so great.. I think that they are back on the right track. A brand new way of renting movies will definitely keep all of you movie-lovers very happy, I know I am definitely a satisified movie renter now.
Round 1: Blockbuster vs. All Previous Video Stores
Alright, everybody remembers when Blockbuster video slowly but surely took out all of the local little guys and even some not so little guys because they were simply just the better video store. Even the famous West Coast Video fell victim to the eventual take over of the blue and yellow monster. Then Blockbuster slowed down a bit. Still the number one movie store, they had someone creeping behind them.. of course its Hollywood Video. That hurt sales a bit as well as the super sized late fees that they were charging everyone. But Blockbuster Video prevailed once again as they soon promised their "No More Late Fees" which seemed to bring customers back. This seemed to diminish Hollywood Videos' chances and Blockbuster was once again Champion of Rentals.
Round 2: Blockbuster vs. Netflix
I would assume that everything seemed fine one day at corporate Blockbuster video, that is until alarms rang about a new online company called Netflix. Netflix was promising people a rental service where you could easily access it online, then just stay at home and receive your movies. I'm sure Blockbuster laughed at this idea, thinking to themselves that for sure nobody would put any thought into such a notion. But they were wrong. You have to remember now, America loves to be lazy and anything that can help us be just that much more lazy gets an A++ from consumers. Blockbuster sales once again started to fall and I do believe this is also what eventually ended the career for Hollywood Video, at least around here. The winner this time..newcomer NetFlix.
Final Round 3: Blockbuster vs. the champion Netflix
Okay, Blockbuster wanted a rematch and they got it. Not that long ago they launched their own online rental store but it didn't seem to be as quite as fast as NetFlix. They knew that they were back in the running, and they just needed that extra bit of hope. But where would it come from?
I'll tell you where.
Blockbuster recently launched (Blockbuster Total Access) which is a new renting package online. It allows you to not only do the same online renting, but now you can return the movies directly to the store instead of shipping them back. This saves at least 2-3 days on getting your new movies sent to you. Not only that, they also promise that when you do return the movies to the store instead of mailing them back, for each one movie, they will let you take another rental right from the store, right then and there for free. Honestly, I have had so many movies to watch with this that I almost can't even watch them all. I do however like this better than not having movies at all when I would like to watch one.
If you want to purchase an online movie renting account, Blockbuster is the way to go now. They just offer that much more and they even offer a two week trial period before they even charge you. And you can cancel at any time with no risk to you and no late fees. So what do you have to lose? To have 3 dvds out at a time costs a low 17.99, but you end up having actually about 4-6 movies at a time because of the free in store rentals. And thats not it. Blockbuster Online also provides you with monthly free rental coupons as well as coupons sent directly to your home in your regular mail.
The selection at Blockbuster online is also alot better and bigger than their stores selection, ALOT bigger. You probably can find pretty much any movie. The online renting is also very easy to use, very user friendly, you don't have to be a computer whiz for this one folks.
The only thing that I have seen that isn't that great is the fact that when you make your selections of the movies you want, they tend to send them to you in random order and not in the order that you have listed them in.
If you love renting movies, go with Blockbuster Online.
