Some limitations, but lots of good stuff, and more being added. Excellent for frequent flyers.

Northwest Airlines' web site (NWA.com) offers access to a wide range of useful services, including flight purchases, vacation packages, information on promotions, communication with customer service. It also promises the best fares on Northwest tickets.
It's not without its limitations - it doesn't show much in the way of itineraries on partner airlines other than KLM, and can't seem to put together a trip with more than three flights in each direction - so some things may still be better accomplished over the telephone, but it's better than many airline sites I've used, and improvements continue to be made.
As a frequent flyer on Northwest and it's partners since early 2006, I've found the web site very helpful. I can manage my frequent flyer account on-line, check to see whether miles I've earned for flights or other activities have shown up, research or book award travel using my miles, and let Northwest's customer service department (who are very responsive) know if I encounter any problems while traveling, or receive particularly good service from specific employees. I can even check in for my flights on-line.
Northwest also has automated kiosks at airports to make check-in faster and easier, and lots of telephone support, but the web site is definitely the centerpiece of their automation strategy.
