SB Live! value a real bargain!

Pros:Best 3D sound and EAX support for the money.
Cons:Might not work with some VIA Chipsets.
The Bottom Line: If you want a good sound card and dun wanna spend over 100$ this is your card.

Well what can I say, I was getting tired of my Sound Blaster PCI128. I mean it was able to play sounds but offered next to no 3D sound support for my new DX 7&8 games.
So I went to the local computer store (RA computers in Ottawa). I looked at the retail products the SB Live! Platinum, MP3+ and XGamer. Then I came across an antistatic bag with a sound card in it. As we all know this means that it's an OEM.
I looked at it, then decided to buy it while purchasing a 1yr warranty on it.
The installation was quite simple I had to uninstall my old card then remove it from the PCI slot. I inserted the SB Live! and powered up my system.
Windows ME imediatly found the hardware but installed some Creative PCI drivers. So I decided that instead of using the CD with the drivers that was given to me I went to Creative's web page (www.creative.com) and downloaded the newest drivers.
Installation was simple and easy. After the inf's files were installed I was able to install a few new EAX features and Creative's own mixer.
I rebooted my system then plugged in my Cambridge FPS1800 speakers. I inserted my D2 Cd cuz DiabloII has Amazing EAX2.0 support. WOW, the sound was awesome I really thought I was in a Cave while doing the first quest.

All I have to say is utilized EAX2.0 quite well for the 75$ CAN price tag (50$US).

Even my MP3's seamed to sound better and the CPU utilization was next to nill. (Well I do own a P4 1.7Ghz..lol)

Recommended: Yes

Amount Paid (US$): 50
