Pros:Funny satire of a typical American family
Cons:Kids might try to copy Bart, some reused material
The Bottom Line: If you like comedies, give this show a chance.
No other family is more endearing to the American public than the Simpsons. Heck, they even have their own star on Hollywood Boulevard. So it should come as no surprise that the Simpsons is on of the most watched television shows around. It has the longest running primetime cartoon which has to say something about how much people love it. If you are still unsure about it, let’s look at it in depth.
The Simpsons is a comedy that pokes fun at typical family life. We have Marge, the stay at home mom with a gambling addiction. Homer, the stupid and fat father, Bart, the prankster son, Lisa the smart daughter and who can forget Maggie the baby. This sitcom revolves around the weekly activities of the family. Most of the humor is of the homer gets hurt and cries Doh! variety . This doesn’t mean that it isn’t funny. It just means that the show tends to reuse material a lot. After you have been on for as long as they have, this is kind of expected. Still, there are some genuinely funny moments in this show. I think that all kids will burst out laughing at all of the jokes. Also, you don’t have to worry about any foul language as this is a kids. The worst language you will hear is when Bart says, “Kiss my shorts.”
A warning before I go on. Since this is a cartoon, many of the characters engage in activities that people wouldn’t normally do. While I don’t put much stock in the rumor that television cause violence, very young kids who can’t tell the difference between Tv and real-life shouldn’t watch this.
The cartoony style that the show is drawn in is nothing to write home about but it gets the humor across nicely. Still, the current drawing is a huge improvement over what it was when the show originally started. It was very ugly at that time but it isn’t anymore.
In conclusion, I feel that this is one show that the whole family can watch. Grownups and kids alike will be glued to the television sets watching show. Don’t be surprised if laughter heard around the house when this show is on.
