After posting a review on "MagsForLess", I found it had a second Epinions listing under "MagsForLess.com". I thought it would be a service to post in both areas. If you are looking for opinions on this company, check both listings.
If you are reading this review, you are either considering ordering magazines with this company, or you already did and (like me) are doing your research a little late. Either way, the experience goes something like this...
Place Your Order: I placed an order for three magazines at MagsForLess.com on Sept 9, 2006.
Waiting Period for the Magazines to Arrive: Per their requirement, I waited 12 weeks and then reported the non-receipt of my order to MagsForLess.com via their website.
Wait For A Response After Reporting Problem: After a few attempts, I finally got an email reply from "Meagan" on December 7, 2006 saying "I located the order you are referring to and was able to identify the problem with getting your subscription processed. The issue has now been corrected. I went ahead and personally resubmitted your order to the publisher and put a rush on it. You should receive your magazine within the next 4-12 weeks". Awesome! Or so I thought.
Keep Waiting: It has now been over 22 weeks and I still have not received a single issue of any of the 3 magazines I ordered. I also have asked for multiple status reports and no longer get any reply. They are totally non-responsive.
[Actually, that last statement isn't 100% true. I did get a response two weeks ago (week 20) which was identical to the response I got during week 13 (see above). If the week 20 reply is true, then by definition the week 13 reply was not entirely true. Since they are identical, and the week 13 reply was false, that would make the week 20 boilerplate reply a fallacy as well. I don't believe it for a second].
Take Action: I have filed a formal complaint with the FTC and Better Business Bureau. While at BBB.org, I discovered that MagsForLess.com has an unsatisfactory record due to non-fulfillment, lack of response, and making misleading statements to customers (my exact experience). Here is the link to the BBB.org record on MagsForLess.com so you can decide for yourself. http://www.newyork.bbb.org/reports/businessreports.aspx?pid=44&page=1&id=79430. Neither the BBB or FTC has officially gotten back to me.
Take More Action: I then contacted my credit card company to seek a refund, which is the FIRST thing you should do (assuming you didn't come to Epinions first which would have helped you to avoid the whole problem in the first place). The credit card company immediately gave me a temporary credit and sent MagsForLess.com a letter of inquiry. After 60 days with no response from MagsForLess (no surprise) the credit card company made the credit permanent.
Bottom Line I've moved on. You should too. Don't expect to get treated any better than me, the 110 folks that complained to the BBB, or any of the other dozens of recent Epinion reviewers who have suffered the same fate.
