What about Ashok!
I live in the New York City metro area. My priorities in life are:
· My beautiful wife of 13 years Carmen. She is the most amazing person I have ever met in my life. I fell in love with her because she is so strong willed, passionate about all things in her life and has very clear vociferous opinions on everything. We’ve had some incredible highs and some incredible lows. We have had some serious problems in the past, and still do, but I know in my heart that there is nothing that she or anyone else could do or say, that would change the way I feel about her or make me want to leave her. I couldn’t imagine a world without her in it.
· My wifes cat, Daphne Doll, who has become our only child. She is a silver chinchilla Persian, who we adopted three years back from a breeder. I’m sorry Barbara, I still haven’t learned how to clean her eyes. Daphne will be 10 years old in May and is a great grandmother now. We enjoy seeing pictures of her descendants on the web at Persiancats.com. I always considered myself a dog person. And when my wife introduced me to cats, I found I had strong allergic reactions to them. NOW I wake up in the mornings with white fur in my beard. Daphne loves to scratch her face on my chin, while I’m sleeping!
· My older brother who does not keep in touch, my three sisters, all of whom I miss very much, and my parents who I wish would come and stay with me because they are starting to have health problems.
· My health. A sedentary work environment compounded by years of neglect equates to borderline diabetes and heart complications. I’ve started watching what I eat, but I just wish I had spongebob_man1’s passion for working out.
· My work as a Financial Advisor. Long ago when my broker started posting losses on my hard earned money, I took things into my own hands and actively started managing my own finances. I got so involved in money management that after much prompting from friends and relatives, I got my licenses and became a Financial Advisor, and learned how the game is played. You won’t see me write any reviews on financial planning or investment advice because I’m afraid that I won’t know when to stop typing. An old friend once told me, “Having a broker lose you your money is like shtuping your wife by proxy”.
· GADGETMANIA. Electronics in any shape or form are a passion bordering on addiction. I have a proclivity for mobile phones, PDAs, digital cameras and personal computers. My current quest is for the ultimate portable device, which is a PPC based PDA, triband GSM/GPRS mobile phone, at least 1MP digital camera, videophone, WiFi / Bluetooth enabled and expandable memory, all built into one device. If anyone has come across this animal, please e-mail me. I know it’s only a matter of time before some company makes it, but I wanted it yesterday.
· Shooting Sports. You know, I think my ardor for the shooting sports must be due to a genetic defect. No one in the recorded history of my family tree has ever owned, or cared to own a firearm. But for some strange reason, I have undue amounts of respect for soldiers and I very much enjoy going to a range and punching holes in paper. I was born and bred to be a vegetarian and I am an animal lover. Which means I am against hunting of any sort. It’s a free country and I don’t have to like it and I don’t have to support it. I don’t believe that I will ever be in a situation, where I’ll need a gun to protect me or mine. I have mixed feelings about the second amendment. “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” In this day and age, we don’t need the public to be armed to preserve the security of a free state. We have dedicated services such as the military, reserves and police departments to do that. On the other hand, I would not be able to enjoy my sport in the absence of the second amendment. That said, if repealing the second amendment would prevent one more drive by shooting or the death of an innocent child, I'll personally throw my firearms collection in to the incinerator. I credit this hobby to PFC Ralph Edward Moore.
· Astrophysics and Quantum Mechanics. When I was growing up in my dads house, I would walk up a steep hill nearby, and spend countless hours looking at the stars and the night sky, contemplating the mysteries of the universe. My favorite TV shows were Cosmos with Carl Sagan and Star Trek. My favorite authors were Sir Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov and Erich Von Daniken. I went to a catholic high school and my favorite two teachers were both German priests. Fr. Eisch and Fr. Schock. I have fond memories of them playing numerous documentary films that expanded our horizons and taught us about the wide world beyond. I feel that all of the above factors, contributed towards an insatiable hunger for knowledge that is still a big part of me. I consider myself a classic physicist. Which roughly means that I depend upon general laws of physics and observed phenomena in nature, to hypothesize an argument. I feel that my strongest skill in this area is to cross reference seemingly unrelated data to come to an educated conclusion. However, all of this amounts to zilch if there is no mathematics to back it up. This is why I have tremendous newfound admiration for mathematicians such as our very own Arthur Rubin. Now I feel that everything in nature can be analyzed thru mathematics. Currently my thoughts and efforts are focused on gravity.
· Amateur Photography. I have always loved to take photographs. I started out many year back with a Yashica 35mm SLR. Since then I have gone thru a slew of cameras and photo equipment. But for the last 3 years, I have exclusively been using digital cameras. I’m sure that many of you might disagree with this statement, but with 3-6 mega pixel resolution cameras coupled with affordable professional digital photo printing, I feel there is no use for the 35mm format in consumer applications anymore. My next camera will be the Canon EOS-1Ds. But I think I will wait for Howard Creech to review it first.
· Movies. I absolutely love to spend the weekends, watching some good movies with friends. My favorite genre is, (you guessed it) science fiction. Big budget action movies are a close second. I maintain copious amounts of movie quotes in my head. And tend to use them in regular unrelated conversations, more than I should.
· Music. Considering where the music industry is going with copyright protection, I’m sure glad that all my favorite music was recorded before the advent of grubby, gluttonous, nazi music executives. I have over a 1000 CDs that I laboriously converted to MP3 files. SO I CAN DO WHAT I WANT WITH THE MUSIC I HAVE PAID FOR. (Sorry for yelling)

I won’t talk about religion or politics here, but you can count on reading some controversial editorials, coming soon to a writers corner near you.

So that’s the story of me. . . . so far ;)

Write On, Ya’ll
