A Pain In The Grass
Apr 03 '03
The Bottom Line A "celebration" of a familiar warmer-weather "tradition." I confess that this poem exaggerates--slightly!
With spring came the dawn
Of a newly-green lawn
That has grown like a weed
To more length than I need.
So, now, it's summer,
And (bummer!)
Mowing time has come
When my lawnmorons play dumb!
Self-propelled--since when?
Why, it won't even start. . .
Oh well! Try, try again. . .
And again. . .
And again. . .
Etcetera. . .
Perhaps, the lawn tractor will do better.
Its muffler is gone, and the noise isn't nice.
"You'll be fined and do time,
If I have to come twice!"
Growls the sheriff,
Whose office is clear across town.
"Who ratted?"
"Nobody!" he snaps with a frown.
"I heard you myself--is that such a surprise!?!
The din could bring tears to the most macho eyes!"
Maybe, lawnmoron three
Will work better for me.
Fat chance!
Does a dance;
Falls apart;
Breaks my heart!
Lawnmoron four smokes--
Then, explodes with a flash.
I'll just put all my lawnmorons
Out with the trash!
No more hassle for me,
If you know what I mean--
I'll be pouring cement
And painting it green!
