Cons: Too bad the 540E 40x it's the opposite in noise and media recognizing
The Bottom Line: I'll stick to my TEAC 524EA till it crashes (10 years from now hopefully) :))

| codrutz's Full Review: Teac 524EA Internal 24x CD-ROM Drive |
Teac is recognized as the best choice for CD reader drives.
If you want a durable, lifetime work from a CD reader than it's a Teac. When you want Digital Audio Extraction at 10 quality and fastest speeds, the it's Teac.
I had my Teac 524EA-B drive since 1998 and it works excellent. I realize that when I see other drives and especially few days ago when I bought a Teac 540E 40x. Please visit my opinion about teac 540E to see what bothered me (I just hope that I hit a faulty drive).
So, the 524E it has uniques qualities like:
- variable speed reading in 12 zoned CLV, this is I think a superb innovation this make this drive..
- read ANY CD, written on ANY media, any quality, any speed
- it's so quite, compared with the actual speed demons (over 8ooo rpm) that make a noise like a plane and wind like a fan
- DAE quality 10, Teac 524EA is not the fastest, because is older generation, but it can do great, also for OnTheFly AudioCD copy
