A Review About Me - George Made Me Do It
Apr 05 '03
The Bottom Line Writer's Corner is a neat place, when no place else works.
I was asked by Corpgent to add to his little idea of writing a review of ones self, with a list of twenty facts. Considering I am in a major writing slump at least this gives me a familiar topic. Though sometimes I question that fact too.
20. I hate talking about myself, other people are so much more interesting. I love listening to others because it keeps me focused that there are so many other ways to look at things. Even if I don't agree with what others think, it causes me to think so this is a good thing.
19. I came from wonderful and loving parents. I was and always will be Daddy's little girl. He taught me tolerance, diversity, acceptance, honor, the importance of family and unconditional love. We could put our heads together to find a workable solution. Where Mom and I put our heads together usually locking horns. We did not share the closeness that Dad and I did, but I realized (perhaps too late) that she too loved me. Besides the gift of life, she gave me my love of music, how your children come first in your life, and that sometimes love hurts.
18. I have three wonderful brothers. One older (just by a little bit, how's that Gung?) And two younger brothers. They all have also helped to shape me into the person I am today. Gungian taught me to appreciate an older brother and the importance they can be in later years. He is my rock. He through example showed me patriotism, giving 28 years of his life to the Navy as a submariner. Often sacrificing the joys of civilian life and family by being out to sea months at a time defending our country so others could be home enjoying those same joys he was denied.
Brother two again through example taught me, that love can conquer what seems unconquerable odds. He is the Father of a special needs daughter, and instead of allowing the so called professionals to talk him into institutionalizing said daughter he took her home to love as long as God saw fit. A child with a life expectancy of two years old, will be 24 in December. Way to go bro. That brings me to the baby brother. Though he is quite a few years younger than Gung and me he seems to have learned a lot from his older brother. He is an officer in the Army's Special Forces. He has two babies but he is dedicated to his country so those babies can grow up in a safer and more loving world. Please keep him and all those defending our nation both abroad and in the states in your prayers. No wonder I like the middle ground. One brother living under the sea, another jumping out of planes, geesh they are sick twists, but they have my love and admiration.
17. I went to Parochial school until my Junior year when it was highly suggested I go someplace else. I hated school, was a very poor student, not because I could not do the work, I choose not to showing my independence and looking back my stupidity I had a seat in the detention hall with my name on it, I was expelled twice for smoking in uniform, once for skipping detention, and once for planning a Senior skip day. Ah the memories of school not to many bitter sweet, mostly bitter Argh!
16. I have a good sense of humor, but I do not like slap stick and I definitely do not think things done at someone else's expense for a laugh is funny. Someone falling is not funny, but the cat running into the wall is. I am a very literal person, so sometimes jokes are lost on me, because I tend to take most things very seriously and personally so if you say something it's hard for me to decide if someone means it or is joking. Literal is sometimes bad :)
15. I am not prejudiced, and I truly believe people in general are good. I have never met a stranger, and have been accused of talking to a fire hydrant. I think people will respond in the same fashion they are approached, I'm not always right on this one but my batting average is over 500
14. Speaking of batting averages I love baseball, so this time of year I am a happy camper. My two favorite teams are the Atlanta Braves in the National league, and the Boston Red Sox in the American. One of my life goals is to see the Braves play in every National league park, and Boston in every American league park. I doubt this goal will ever be met because I have neither the time or money for that type of travel plus they keep building new parks. I do have a pretty good start though. I have been to the old Cincinnati field, both old and new parks in Atlanta, Wrigley field, Mets stadium, Fenway, and Wrigley field. Hoping to get in the new stadium in Cinn and get to Cleveland this year, so I ever so slowly chip away at it. Actually I enjoy sports in general but baseball is number one.
13. I spent a combined ten years as a youth soccer coach, three years coaching basketball, and one as a bowling coach. I adore working with kids they are just so wonderful, now kids are funny, if we could just grow up keeping that innocence and marvel of what goes on around us.
12. Grudges I do not hold, life is too short. Revenge is never sweet a hollow victory at best. I was not put here to judge others but to accept them for who and what they are. There are very few people I just don't care for, so I do my best to avoid them, when forced to deal with them I try and be as cordial as possible. For I believe I will never be asked to account for your actions, but I will mine, and I would rather answer with my head held high, then down looking at my shoes.
11. I am a registered nurse and have spent the last thirty four years working in the Operating Room. Both a rewarding and gut wrenching position. I probably do become too attached to my patients but it is the only way I know. I don't think doctors are God yet they often do hold life in the palm of their hands. More often then not they are dedicated to their positions so when they are real dick-heads I can over look it.
10. Don't be late! I am time conscience to a fault some say. Those would be the ones that were supposed to meet me at a pre determined time to go somewhere, they weren't there on time, nor was I there when they arrived :)
I (when working) arrive an hour early as a rule. I set out way before a designated arrival time to allow for car problems, accidents, traffic, or any other unforeseen delay. Late drives me right up a wall, it doesn't matter if it's one minute or one day I get just as upset. Hence while married my hubby would stay out all night drinking his rationale was "you get just as hot if I stop for one beer as you do if I stop for 20 so might as well have the 20" Guess in his way of thinking he was right.
9. Once I love someone, they always have a place in my heart. Regardless of my current involvement or non involvement with a person, they remain in my heart. Because the reasons I loved them in the first place is much stronger than whatever reason caused a split. Guess it goes back to not holding grudges, it's not worth my effort to spend time thinking negatively about that person.
8. I am a peace maker. I do not like confrontation on any level, with anybody. I will go out of my way to avoid stepping on anyone's toes. I am a very stubborn Lassie, actually I have a cousin that said "You're like a dog on a meat wagon" but have been known to give in just to avoid conflicts. Disharmony just wears me out.
7. Movies that I enjoy are ones that give me a reason to think, to learn something, to empathize with a people or a cause. I enjoy musicals, and some comedies. Here's a short list: Boy's On The Side, Sound Of Music, Steel Magnolias, John Q, Birdcage, Beaches, Prince Of Tides, Thornbirds, and Fried Green Tomatoes. Ah I forgot Schindler's List, Color Purple and We Were Soldiers. So see I enjoy a pretty good variety. NO NO NO slap stick!
6. I love being a MOM and adore being a grandmother. Grandchildren are indeed God's blessings for having kids (smile) My granddaughter just adds so much joy to my life, it seems she truly knows me and my moods better than anyone else, and has from a very young age, even though she is just now only nine. My explanation to this special bond, she was conceived around the same day my Dad passed, part of him was recycled in her. God closed a door but indeed opened a window.
5. I am basically honest, just not brutally so. I won't tell you the meal you cooked was lousy, but I might say it can't compare to the peanut butter and jelly you fixed last week. This is not to say I haven't lied because I have but in most instances I thought it would be less painful for another, I was usually always wrong.
4. I am responsible and accountable and people that are not irk me to no end. Passing the buck and laying blame on someone else is inexcusable. If you did it own up to it. I have more respect for the person who stands to take the heat, when they deserve it, then one who lingers behind acting totally innocent.
3. Do what you say you are going to do, no matter what you promise. If you promise to take your child out for pizza and get a hot date offer later in the day from the entire Chippendales or Dallas cheerleaders staff, take that kid for pizza. I try to live up to my word, no matter how difficult it may be to carry that out. Of course there are always exceptions but the exception definitely has to tip the scales greatly to go back on your word.
2. I am a good friend, I still keep in touch with folks I was in grade school with. I am a dependable friend good/bad easy/hard times I will not let you down. I will be there for you. I can't claim to hold magical solutions, but sometimes all you may need is a sympathetic ear, this I can do. People are important to me and you can always have a second chance. As I said earlier I'll be in your life unless you exclude me from yours, but you'll remain in my heart, thoughts, and always my prayers. Which brings me down to #1
1. I am a Christian. I know all my blessings come from God. I know I could never have climbed some obstacles in my life without His love and support. I do not preach, but am more than willing to discuss religion with anyone who is sincere in their requests. I respect people of other faiths, and people who claim they have no faith I have no right challenging your beliefs. I like to think my beliefs are shown through example VS shouting it from the rooftops. Each of us is unique, and have our own personal relationship in what and whom we believe, or not believe. Again I only have to be accountable for myself. All life is important in my eyes, you do not have to think or believe as I do, I will care for you because you are my fellow human being.
Thanks George, music reviews are a lot more time consuming but not nearly as difficult.
