We purchased this car seat when our son was about 6 months old. He had outgrown his infant carseat/carrier. Friends of ours had purchased one for their son who is 6 weeks older than our son, so we looked into it as well.

The seat is well-padded and comfortable. It also comes with a tether for added safety. It can be rear-facing (up to 20 pounds and 12 months old) or forward facing (12 months old and 20-40 pounds) and reclines appropriately.

Consumer Reports states that the seat cracked in a crash while used with the tether strap, that the seat is much safer without the tether. We have a van, so we weren't using the tether anyway. But how awful!

The straps are the worst feature of the carseat. They are quite soft and flimsy and they become very twisted. We tried using those strap covers in hopes they would keep the straps straight, but with no luck.

The other problem we had is him getting himself into the seat. I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and lifting a 35 pound toddler sitting on the opposite side of the van is not an easy feat! The carseat does not sit up straight at all - it reclines even in the forward facing position. He couldn't climb up into it at all because the front of the seat was so high. Then his legs were above the rest of him, so he constantly kicked the back of the passenger seat. Not good.

My son is now almost 3 and has outgrown the Horizon V. We got him a booster seat and all we have to do is hook up the van seat belt. We will not be using the Horizon V for this next baby!
