| nycteacher's Full Review: Instead Feminine Protection Cup |
I had heard about reusable menstrual cups before from friends who lived in countries with undeveloped waste management. The idea has intrigued me for a couple of years now, so when I saw Instead disposable cups at Rite Aid I was excited to try something new. However, I was disappointed that there were no detailed written instructions inside the box and only 4 brief instructions with a few pictures that were hard to decipher on the outside of the box. Yet, I decided to try them out anyways on the first day of my period. Inserting it was slightly uncomfortable and I could feel it pushing against my pubic bone inside of me. After about 5 minutes the pain subsided, so I figured everything was ok. Luckily I reached work on time to check myself in the bathroom before I had a huge mess on my hands. I had to yank the soft cup out of myself in a public bathroom, which was uncomfortable enough, but I dealt with it. When I got home I found the Instead website which had much more detailed instructions and frequently asked questions. This gave me some hope that the soft cups would work. I decided to try it again. Again the insertion was uncomfortable and I could feel the pressure of the soft cup against me inside. Yet again this subsided after the first 5 minutes. The next 5 hours was bliss as I could not feel anything inside of me, but I was still constantly worried that it was going to leek again. I wasnt sure the mental anxiety was worth it. When it was time to get ready for bed I knew I needed to take it out. This was quite a chore. I had my finger fully inside of me and I could barely reach it. The rim was nearly impossible to grab, and the cup had suctioned itself to me. I literally had to dig the cup out of me by prying my finger in between my pubic bone and the rim of the cup and leveraging it out. This was a somewhat traumatic experience and as you can imagine my hand was a mess. This was nearly ten minutes ago, and I still have discomfort. I feel like I just had a pap smear done. I paid $7 for a 14 pack, and it wasnt worth the pain or discomfort. Let alone the mental anguish. Im certainly not about to go through the hassle of mailing the leftovers to the company. Its not worth the time or cost in shipping or handling. I threw the rest of them away. If you decide to try them be warned that Instead soft cups are not always a pleasant experience, and you should definitely approach with caution.
