The Bottom Line: This would be an excellent high quality pet treat, but because it contains wheat, I would not recommend this or use it.
First off, I would say that this product is head and shoulders above what many other treats for puppies contain.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Nutro Ultra came in a puppy biscuit treat. Since I had planned on training my dog extensively, I was very interested in finding a very healthy treat for him when he needed.
I am still impressed with the line of Nutro Brand products, as I use them for my cat as well. I found the nutrient and quality to be much higher than most everything out there. Nutro has really added in some excellent ingredients!
There is one very big issue that I have with this product. It may not be important to many pet owners as much as it is to me. However, Nutro Brand professes in their Ultra Puppy Food to not contain Wheat or Corn, to make the digestion of food easier for puppies. So why do they add it as the very first ingredient in their very own biscuits?
Again, I had quickly assumed that the same ingredients and lack thereof would be the same in this product. However, I was very surprised to find out that the ingredients I had kept out of my puppy's diet alltogether (wheat flour and wheat products) were present in this treat. Not just present, but the first TWO ingredients! I am not thrilled with this, since I would imagine many people had done the same thing as me, assuming their products would be seamless, and not have the corn or wheat products that puppies should avoid. It's too bad, considering the remainder of the products are comparable in quality to Ultra Puppy Food.
I would recommend all pet owners with the same concern as me to use the Nutro Natural Choice "Large Breed Puppy" Rice & Lamb Meal Formula biscuit, since this particular one does not contain any wheat products, yet still contain all of the high quality ingredients that you would expect to come from a Nutro product.
