20 or So Facts About Little Ole Me - Corpgent's W/O

The Bottom Line At first I thought it would be hard to come up with 20 things, but I found it even harder to keep it to only 20.

After receiving the invite for this write-off from the handsome George, our beloved Corpgent on Epinions, I just couldn’t resist. Heck I am a sucker for a handsome face, so I said, why not? Actually I think George’s idea is a great one! As I told him, I think this will help us all get a better understanding of “the who” behind the pictures on our profile.

So, here goes:

1. My name is Karen and I am a mother of three. Two boys and a girl, ranging in age from eight to 16. My kids are without a doubt, my best accomplishment in life. I am so proud of each of them. They make me smile; they are my everything. When I feel like I just can’t go on, I just look at them. They’re all the inspiration I need.

2. I am recently separated. I have been married twice. I am trying to get back into the dating scene. I have met many wonderful men despite my Mother questioning my sanity for splitting up with my husband and telling me how hard it would be for a thirty something woman with three kids to even get a man. Where she got the idea that I even want to marry again, I really don't know. OK, I did love being married & I still love men despite all I‘ve been though with them!

3. I am from the South: Southern born and bred. I went to etiquette school- - really! I also took a class (not by choice) to help rid me of my Southern accent. They found that you can take the girl out of the South, but you can’t take the South out of the girl.

4. Most of my childhood memories are not all that pleasant. I was a straight A student, did volunteer work and every extracurricular activity under the sun. I was always expected to be perfect at all times and no mater how hard I tried, I couldn’t live up to what everyone expected. I was always on key with a smile on my face no matter how much it all hurt. I was a puppet on a string. I burned myself out. I had a breakdown. I rebelled for while. I came back around. I am not bitter (well, not much anyway) about it though. I guess it made me stronger. I refuse to put my children through the same thing.

5. My very first memory is of my great-grandmother’s death. We were on the way to the funeral and it was raining. I was only four years old and my mom had me carry her hatbox out to the car . She told me to try not to get any rain on the box. Well, the raindrops fell all over the hatbox causing permanent watermarks on the top of the lid. I held that hatbox in my lap and cried for my great-grandmother. I made my own marks on the hatbox from my tears. Every time I saw that hatbox after that time it reminded me of my great-grandmother‘s death. I knew which watermarks were from my tears. I thought the rain that day was the tears that came from heaven because heaven was sad too.

6. I have been both rich and poor, thin and not so thin. I find people find fault with you no matter what. When I was thin, people said that I needed to gain weight and when I did gain a little weight, people said that I need to lose weight! I finally realized that I cannot please everybody all the time, so I just try to be happy with myself the way I am, although it‘s not always that easy.

7. My first job was a model. My first car was a brand new 1983 candy apple red Chevrolet Camaro. My first real kiss was age 12. My first love was Eddie. I am a Pisces and my favorite color is red, but I wear black all the time, even in the summer.

8. At one time I was one of those annoying ladies who spray perfume all over you. Sorry if you were ever one of my victims. Now I am allergic to everything, so I cannot spray perfume anymore. Most colognes and perfumes give me a headache. Anything with a strong smell can make me sick for the rest of the day. I can barely go down the soap/detergent aisle at the supermarket without getting a headache. The smell of seafood makes me sick. Cigarette smoke makes me wheeze.

9. I’ve had Fibromyalgia for about 15 years. It took 10 years for me to get a diagnosis. I have good days and bad days. I can be fine one day and then sick the next. This condition has no rhyme or reason to it and no cure either. It makes living out a structured life next to impossible. Like other victims of this debilitating illness, I have to take things one day at a time. This condition is so horrible, it sometimes makes me feel like a prisoner inside my own body.

10. I have photographic memory and can remember names and faces really well. Although, the Fibromyalgia sometimes causes what I call, “brain fog” and during this time I can forget my own name.

11. I do a lot of volunteer work. I’ve held many volunteer positions at churches. I have volunteered in military Family Support offices and have done Public Relations for various organizations that I have been affiliated with. I have counseled teens on many issues. And, I’ve worked on political campaigns.

12. I love to sing! I sang in the chorus in high school, and on the praise and worship team in church. I sang in school productions and even had a few solos. Don’t laugh, but I dreamed of becoming a rock star or an actress when I was younger. I was in a commercial. My sister and I used to put on various shows and skits for everyone we were younger. My other very limited talents include: playing the piano, baton twirling and tying a knot in a cherry stem with my tongue.

13. My little sister is my best friend. Even though she’s my baby sister, sometimes she plays big sis and takes care of me!

14. I speak Italian and Spanish and a little French -- oui, oui.

15. I lived in Europe for three years and absolutely loved it! I also lived in Guam for a few years. I have been to almost every state in the US, except Washington, Idaho, Montana and Alaska, but I plan to visit all of them someday. I’ve be lucky enough to travel around the world. My favorite places are Rome, Italy and Oahu, Hawaii. I know them both like the back of my hand.

16. I am a news junkie. I even sleep with the TV on the news. I love to watch sports too, mostly football and soccer. I like to have Super Bowl parties and make all kinds of finger foods. I make a pretty mean guacamole dip!

17. I am a Christian and I make no apologies for that. However, I am not an in-your-face Bible thumping Christian. I respect everyone and their right to believe or not believe in anything they want.

18. I am a shop-a-holic. I need a 12-step program. My credit card company’s know me by my name. I cannot pass up any sale. If I watch a shopping channel for more than 15 minutes, I feel compelled to buy something whether I need it or not. I cannot pass a makeup counter without a purchase. There is some kind of magnetic force that pulls me in.

19. I used to be mistaken all the time for a certain soap opera actress and I had people follow me around all the time to get my autograph. Once on a cruise, I had people following me everywhere even to the to the bathroom to ask me for my autograph. People took pictures of me all the time - everywhere. I even had some people yell at me over the not so nice things this actress did on the soap opera. It got scary sometimes yet this mistaken identity did have some benefits. The madness finally stopped when this actress cut and dyed her hair, but I still have people tell me I look like her (and others) from time to time.

20. I love people and can talk forever. When I get with girlfriends we can talk for hours but I am also a good listener and I find there is so much to learn if you take the time to listen.
