The "I Was Wrong" W/O
Apr 10 '03 (Updated Apr 14 '03)
The Bottom Line Could you have been wrong? Now that Iraqi people are dancing in the streets and kissing the coalition troops and ripping down that statues of Saddam Hussein.
I am hosting a write-off, but I will not be participating in it. In this write-off, I would like to invite all of the anti-war writers at Epinions to change their stance on the war in Iraq.
Though the term pro-war does not make sense at all, this war DID have a great outcome for the millions of people in Iraq, mainly the overwhelming population that is under the age of fourteen. These children will never need to worry about the brutal regime of Saddam Hussein. And most of all the women of Iraq will not need to worry about getting raped because they are found attractive by one of Saddams filthy sons. This regime that could have been in power for hundreds of years has been ripped out of power just before Saddam Hussein turned 65 years old, before his sons who are even more horrible than him took power. This cycle of evil leadership in Iraq could have been monumentally devastating and ruinous for a very long time. Long enough to develop and use weapons of mass destruction against YOUR children or their children.
The precision bombs used by the U.S ultimately limited civilian casualty to extremely low amounts. I think the pre-war fatality estimates by many that opposed the war were far, far off. Many believed that hundreds of thousand of Iraqi civilians would be slaughtered by the U.S bombardment. But in reality the civilian death toll was only in the hundreds and should have been much, much lower - If the cowardly Iraqi military did not use civilians as human shields and force them to remain living in harms way, I believe that many lives would have been saved. The loss of life is very unfortunate.
Though the war is not yet finished and the filthy suicide bombers may never stop their evil ways, as I speak the coalition forces loss of life is below 150. Before the war began the most conservative estimates that I heard for the loss of U.S, British and Australian life were a thousand people and many believed it would be three times that. God Bless the fighting men and women that lost their lives.
So many people made President Bush sound like a war-mongering idiot, they painted him as someone that was looking for revenge for his father or looking to steal the great wealth of oil from Iraq. Now that Iraqi people are dancing in the streets and kissing the coalition troops and ripping down that statues and photos of Saddam Hussein (Even though Saddam Hussein won the election 11,000,000 to zero), it is evident that the Iraqi people do enjoy freedom as much as everyone else. And the lack of freedom they were living in is not their way of life. It is also clear that George W. Bush and Tony Blair will take the proper steps in doing what is best for the Iraqi people.
This write-off will allow the writers off Epinions to free themselves of the guilt and disappointment that they are currently feeling. I watched as many spouted off early and often about how they are against the war, against George Bush and how they believed the war will last years. Almost all have said war will not stop Saddam or free the Iraqi people. Now it is fact that war did both.
I suggest that everyone that spoke out before, do the same now. Do not hold in the fact that you were wrong, do not secretly wish the war lasted months and casualties were much worse, do not wish there were street-to-street gorilla war going on now just so you can say I told you so. You do not want to look back 10-20 years from now when Saddam is mentioned in the same sentence as Hitler and remember that YOU were against taking Saddam Hussein out of power.
If you still feel that the war was wrong and there was NOTHING that you said or wrote that you regret, then please DO NOT write in my I Was Wrong write off. If you still feel that great things can not be built because of war, please stay silent. This is strictly for the people that are strong enough to say I Was Wrong.
I'm well aware this could be the first Write-Off in the history of Epinions that has no one taking part.

But please don't kid yourself...Dubya is a mumbling sociopath that needs to be placed as far away from power as possible. I didn't want America to fail in this mission, and they did.

Not too worry, you would have heard about it eventually...after we're bogged down in a guerrilla war for 10 years!

If you are against this War for Oil that our President has launched the country into, it is your duty as an American to start talking. Speak your conscience, now, or be prepared to live later with the bad hand we are all being dealt.

I mean, it's as silly for us to go after a government official like Hussein when there is no proof he was linked with the 9/11 terrorists, just as it would be silly if we declared war on every living person down in the South, simply because a private, disorganized terrorist group went up North and killed some people.

When George W. Bush was campaigning for president in 2000, he often used the phrase "compassionate conservative" to describe his politics. Not surprisingly, as he tends to mangle the English language, Bush clearly has no idea what the word "compassion" means.
