The Bottom Line OK, time to learn about me.
I haven't been able write anything new on epinions for a while, but I just couldn't resist crashing corpgent's "most excellent" write-off. 1. I am just about to turn 40 and I did even notice how the last 10 years flied by. 2. I am generally very shy and reserved, except when I am in the company of close friends. 3. I don't make friends very easily but I am good at keeping the ones that I have. 4. Some people have told me that I am too polite. I have a hard time understanding what this means. Sometimes I feel like I would have fit the society better if I lived in the 1930's. Of course, this is mostly based on my somewhat naive interpretation of how people had better manners in those days based on the movies of that period. 5. Until I was about 16 years old, I was totally uncoordinated. I was very thin and awkward. I was always the last one picked for any games. 6. Something strange happened to me after that. I put on about 30 pounds (mostly muscle) of weight and another 6 inches height in about 18 months. By the time I was 18, I was the starting forward on my high school basketball team. 7. I have always been good at math and science. I used to do all exercises at the end of each chapter of my math books even though the homework would be only a subset of them. 8. I like reading books. I started reading science fiction novels when I was about 9 and I have been through several hundred since then. After college, I started reading books other than science fiction, too. 9. I hate Shakespeare. I can't believe people spend so much time interpreting every sentence this guy has written. If Shakespeare lived today, he will be a script writer for soaps. 10. I got hooked to Tetris in late eighties. I wasted an incredible amount of time playing the stupid game with a bunch of friend who were also addicted. We used to have discussions about the best strategies for scoring high over beer. 11. After going through probably several thousand cans of beer, I decided that I actually don't like beer when I was around 30. Now I only drink wine. 12. I like to consume large quantities of meat. If there is ever an epidemic of mad cow disease in this country, I will probably be one of the first victims - that is, if I haven't died from a heart attack by then. 13. I am one of the few people who live in San Francisco who does not like the city that much. 14. I hate Microsoft with a vengeance. They killed a good number of small innovative companies and trained the consumers to accept extremely poor quality as fact of life. They are the Borg of the S/W industry. 15. I don't understand how some people can be so mean to the homeless but so nice to stray pets. 16. My office is always in a complete state of mess but my house is clean and neat. I guess partially because I tend to spend a lot more time at my office than at my house. 17. I like to do crossword puzzles, though I haven't been able to complete (or nearly complete) any one of the NY Times Sunday puzzles so far. 18. I run about 3 miles every morning 6 days a week. I have never participated in a competitive road race or marathon, though. If I don't run for about a week for some reason, I start getting depressed. 19. I have never sold or bought anything on Ebay. Actually, I have never sold or bought anything on an auction. 20. From 1994 to 2000, I was able to increase the value of my retirement account by 12x after investing in technology and dotcom stocks. I decided to convert my entire portfolio into cash and bonds early in 2000 after I read Irrational Exuberance by Robert Shiller. Sometimes a book can really change your life.
