If not for this little bird, my husband would not be alive.

Patsy,

You're right. Maybe I should write an epinion on it. The night it aired in December, I sat in front of my TV and cried just thinking that if Cher Ami never made it back to camp, my husband would never have been born.

While the move was graphic in many ways and a fantastic saga of history, it also left out a lot.

I'll begin writing my review and hope to post it soon.

I recently saw a TV movie of this historical event, "The Lost Battalion," which starred Rick Schroder as Lt. Whittlesey. It was on a cable station, probably A&E or the History Channel. The movie was filmed in 2001, and is well worth seeing, although no one has written an Epinions review on it.

It is now available on a DVD.

Thank you so much for telling this story.

Hi Haggis,

A good place to start is by viewing the pages at
http://www.homestead.com/prosites-johnrcotter/lost_battalion_heroes.html

It doesn't tell the entire story, but a good portion of it.

It also references many books written about this brave Division.

Just as an added post script, my father-in-law was in Company E of the 308th Infantry which was part of the 77th in the Argonne Forest. His name was Harold Brennen (unfortunately, his name was misspelled at that time).

I have heard of this brigade, but I never had the whole story. Thank you so much for posting this. I now have a burning need to find out more about this piece of American history.

This gave me the chills.

It was beautifully written and I'm so glad that the little bird made it! What a story.

Thanks so much,
