so that future generations are not confused... (Reply to this comment)
by jkkelley
...for a brief time, the site was graced with a flaming racist (and that was but one of his shortcomings) by the user id of 'stx78'. He managed to annoy an impressive number of people in a very short time. He said his real name was 'Chris'. His writing schools would have gotten him held back from third grade.
Anyway, he used to have comments here, which explains the missing pieces. Since he broke Eps' rules about seven ways from Sunday, they threw him off the site. With him went his comments. That, folks, is why this section looks odd.
I'm not bitter toward Chris, or stx78, or 'Choricito' (which could be interpreted loosely in Spanish as meaning 'mini-penis') as I so fondly dubbed him. He was entertaining. His flaccid attempts at argument and vengeance were almost as amusing as his claims to be a journalism major. He was a perennial loser, and in his eyes it was always the result of persecution and malice.
Normally, I would have pitied someone like Chris to a degree. The streak of pure dishonest malice he displayed kept such pity from ever welling up. He did his level best to cause hurt; the fact that he was so pitiful at it cuts no ice. He was outgunned, and he got at least what he had coming.
I believe in the East the expression I'd use toward Chris is: "Eacha hottout, ya baum."

STX78,
Thinks you for finally someone being brave enough to speak the troof about jkkelley. I am long known that the balleyhooed kelley upon which much respect have been given to big dumb dumbieheads have always been looser than white trash. He are, just as you so eloquintly say, a illiterate four-letter word that sometiimes uses hicks. I too regret that hes written 80 crap with a limited vocabulary and also that he write crap on stuff and just as you are say, he will probably the only moron who be in Kansas. He are needful of a shrink the big fattie.
I would guess that he are shriveling in corner crying and biting his pillow right now because you really told him a thing or, too! I are get sick of kelly still wanting to comment on my reviews, and therefore or glad that you or glad to point out his faults. It is obvious that you have much smartitude and are probably a loy-yer or sturgeon or something. And theerfore kelly has much dumbitude and he are write toilet paper.
Thanks for being the courageousness, Chris. Kellys poop has to be his brains, and I have added you to my Web of Trust for pointing that out to me.
I are always hate it when slavering, empty-headed, butt-numbingly obtuse idiots vocally condemn the work of their superiors. Therefore, I am the one that is glad that you have stood up for yourself and really taken it to this Kansas moron.
I are the one that is thinking you,
Sordid-1
P.S. I doubt I am the only one who is the one that is appreciating your forthrightfullness. Please accept my invitation to come take a bow for your brave actions:

replies, third round (Reply to this comment)
by jkkelley
Thanks to you all. Especially Mr. Doyle, who somehow slipped through the reply cracks due to reply timing (I think). Mea clumpa.
DI - awww. Myself, I wouldn't give it VH either, though. How could sitting there blathering about my life story be helpful to me?
LG - thus, the great divide between rural Westerner and urbanized Easterner, a divide enforced by the fact that your side rules mine. But since you cop to liking things I like, you qualify for beer anyway.
treeseed - ironic, because I've long refused to make any observance on March 17 at all--certainly since I renounced the cross. Delighted you enjoyed this.
Paul from east Texas - once a year is probably enough to keep abreast of my Eps involvement. But it's always great to hear from you, in any context.
Mizzou - amateur sports have really affected my life. I think they offer us a modern substitute for mammoth hunts and cattle raids.
Bij - as usual, you're too kind. Remind me to send you some other books at some point here.
Jan - it really was a marvel. Once in awhile our folks do something right.
Dr. Steph - see, now, that's the mark of a non-mental mental health professional: she doesn't take offence at my statement, because she's seen the evidence in her classrooms.:) In any case, when I was composing that part, I thought specifically of you. The gist of my discussion with my inner voices and personalities was this: "The good professor will not be offended, for not only does it not apply to her, she knows the reality and will be amused."
Mrs. K - you are always a gracious lady. And though you surely need not call me 'Mr. Kelley', I take it as a sincere compliment.
Mike - sorry for missing you earlier, once again. I suck. Sage? I demur. Piece of work? I no lo contender. It's true. And thank you.

I don't really feel VH is a justified rating for this. Actually, I don't see the point in any rating. Nearly everything you've written is more enjoyable, and insightful, than what I find in Barnes and Noble. How that can be pinned down to a generic rating is beyond me.

You know, it's funny, because when people used to ask me where I was originally from and I said "Washington", they would say, "the state?" and I would recoil in horror and say, "No! The city!"
Not everyone who lives there, not even a majority, is attending cocktail parties in pressed suits, jockeying and backstabbing. I assure you, there is plenty of wrinkled-suit wearing. I miss the city constantly.
But I forgive you, because you watch Survivor and Big Brother and like maps.

"Your worst abuse in life will come from those who have compromised the principles you still uphold." This has become my new motto. I enjoyed reading your contribution to Corpgent's W/O. I, too, believe Butter Brickle ice cream is the best. I, too, am a chronic sufferer from the heartbreak of TSID. At least you once HAD a famous birthday...mine has always been "the day after" St. Patrick's Day. I would have preferred it if all the kids wore green to school on my birthday. I would have enjoyed having a green beer on my birthday, too. Alas, it was not to be.

replies, round two (Reply to this comment)
by jkkelley
Thanks, again, for many kind words. I'm lucky to have you all reading to begin with.
Nate - it's not that mine's all bad; in fact, I know of far, far worse. I just heard, one two many times, the smarmy whine "but family is the one thing you can always count on." I finally asked myself whether that was really true, and in my case, it hasn't been. Say this for mine, at least: had I turned out to be gay, they'd have accepted me and any partner as they have Deb.
Gael - depends. I have family in Indiana and Kansas by that name, and further back, in Kentucky (where they had to leave because Uncle Cole killed a Klansman. Gods bless Uncle Cole.). Prior to that, most likely Donegal or Derry. Anywhere close?
Tom - if you liked that one, you'd probably like Canadian Bacon too. By the way, there's a site with a monthly Bob & Doug routine: http://www.oxford.net/~bobnet/hoser/index.html. I read religiously.
Jay - very interesting observations. The main reason I don't love dogs, frankly, is because I so often have to deal with their BS in my work. I go to people's houses and end up using my briefcase as a shield while they say, every time, "but he just wants to love you." This when MonsterMutt is barking to beat hell and trying to jump on me.
Man, when you mentioned Fiends, you really hit the nail. Deb loves that miserable dreck. My recommendation is that when they start talking about any sitcom named after a slang expression, you chime in with a recitation of whatever decaying ooze they had to eat on Fear Factor last time. Shuts 'em up right away.
Did you catch the vitki?
Mel - thank you. Next time you're at the Black Canyon, btw, say howdy to my dad. I was so moved by its beauty that I scattered his ashes there in 1990.
Mr. Grover - I'm of the firm belief that without us Libras to keep things steady, the world would go batso. Isn't it weird how we seem to share that common bond?
Marcy - you're the bee's knees. And you're right. Courtesy is expected; respect is earned.

jk,
Having aborted a career in the visual arts (Painting Major on an Arts scholarship), I can relate to what yer saying (#15). One of my very best friends who witnessed firsthand my rise and creative crash and burn with the vis arts oh so many years ago has told me to this day that he still doesn't get it. Not far removed from my incomprehension of how anyone could not love man's best friend.
Thank you for #24. I now feel a kindred spirit enjoying the same pop-trash for the exact same reasons. Another choice quality is the lack of attachment. I don't know these people even though they are "real" and when it's all said and done, goodbye. Nice not knowing you ever again. Next set of idiots, please.
And I do not prescribe to the weekly sitcom ritual. Besides being a contrived fantasy slice of life, it's the unyielding attachment that gets me (and the fact that it is such a popular discussion topic on daytime talk as well as weekly supermarket rags). People who genuinely care (on a daily almost hourly basis, mind you) what happens in the fictitious world of Ross and Rachel border on batty. Hey, it's fine you like 'Friends' as many people do, but please, please do not waste my lunch hour hypothesizing the various directions the lives of these characters could take if scenario a, b, or c comes to fruition before the end of the season. Worse yet, expect my thoughts on the matter in return.
RE: #26. Preach on, brother. Words or phrases that stilt my oft passive anger include 'irregardless' and 'needless-to-say'. If it is truly needless to say then why the fuck are you saying it?! Er, sorry you had to experience that.
Lastly, #5. Brilliant.
Your entry was terribly enjoyable and sucked way more time than expected from my paying gig. However, I'm better for having read it. Maybe I should do one.... or not.

As always, thank you, one and all.
Leslie - then I was not being badass and irritable enough! I shall mend my ways. I knew I was doing something wrong.
John - thanks. And cheers.
Pamela - oh, there's a whole evening of cultured imbibement out there just waiting for us to commune on that one. My favourite: "you can choose your friends but you can't choose your family", usually by an annoying family member. I am delighted to have proven them wrong both ways by both hiring and firing family.
Ken - that's because your technique is so unrefined. I've watched your methods now and then and they could do with some improvement. Isn't there a voc-tech school with classes you could take?
Jenn - I know. If you start having weird dreams in which you are a fat, bearded guy, though, we'll need to take drastic action.
Melissa - well, I definitely like some of their proverbs. Maybe I should watch more of the later Star Trek stuff so I can find out what you mean.
Dr.D - I'm telling you, it's bad.
What I didn't say in the body, of course, is that I've known plenty in the profession of mental health whom I thought were making an honest contribution to actual healing. I have to say that because otherwise I sound like I'm in bed with Team Elron, and trust me that I do not want to go there. Comparing modern psychology and psychiatry to Scientology is like comparing a Swedish prison to a Syrian one.
