All right me and my brothers are huge sonic the hedgehog fans, and even though none of us own a sega system (I own a game gear but that doesn’t count). Anyway my brother bought this at the store because it was only 10 dollars. There is a good reason for that, because this sonic game sucks.

Story.
The story is kind of lame, everybody is after Chos crystals, and they decide to race for them. Now sonic in the crew are racing up to 4 tracks in order to get them all back.

Graphics.
To be honest the graphics are nothing to brag about, all the graphics are jaggy and ugly to look at. The racetracks are also a bit blurry and ugly to.

Sound.
The music is the only thing the game can brag about. Every stage has music and lyrics to it. The lyrics go along with the music and pump up the quality of the race. The lyrics are inspirational and work on the kiddy level of the game.

Gameplay is where it goes down the pot.

OK first off if you’re expecting a Mario kart clone don't, instead of cars everybody races on foot (with the exception of Amy). To make matters worse there is only a total of 5 tracks to race (and one unlockable), There are also only 4 characters to choose from at the start (all though there are a bunch to unlock). The characters are sonic, knuckles, tails, amy and robotnick.

While the tracks are huge they don't make up for the lack of variety and the fact that there is only 5 of them.

Has mention before Sega makes up for this by adding in a bunch of unlockable stuff to it. In each course there are Sonic coins, collect 5 of them and win first or 2nd place and you get to race a robotic version of the sonic crew. Beat them in a race and you get to keep them. There are also chaos crystals to be found these can only be kept if you get 1st, I don't know what will happen if you get all the chaos crystals because I have never been able to find all of them.

Controls.
The control for this game suck has well. It seems that no matter how fast we go, and how soon and hard we press to make sonic turn, he always winds up in the water on the sides of the tracks. This lets the computer get ahead of and causes a lot of frustration.

My thoughts.
This game fails to live up with it's rival Mario kart 64, the lack of courses, characters, and the fact that you can't steer them make sonic R a real bore.
