Pros: It doubles as a portable heater, since the cooling fan is so bad.
Cons: In 15 words or less I couldn't begin to explain.
The Bottom Line: If you want a computer that can run simple programs, is portable, and work consistently, avoid this machine.

| davinrerbert's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 5000 R600LG |
As I write this epinion, I am on an Inspiron 5000, so you can be sure that I know what I'm talking about.
The allure of a 600 mhz processor, 256 MB, 6x DVD, 15" screen, and other goodies is what originally led me to the Inspiron. At the time, these features made my Dell a top-of-the-line machine, with top of the line costs, (about $3200 total.) The delivery of my new laptop felt more like the birth of a child and I was consumed with excitement. And for the following weeks and months, I was extremely satisfied with the computer.
One day about two months after my purchase, I attempted to connect my Inspiron with my friend's Inspiron 3500 in order to transfer some files. I followed the poor instructions for IR connection in my manual and waited for a transfer that never came. Indeed, my infrared port did not function. I desperately called Dell, explained the situation, and was promptly put on hold for 30 minutes. when I finally got through to a customer service representative, they informed me that my computer would have to be sent in. I did so, and five, count 'em, five weeks later my computer was returned to me, fixed. This was just a taste of things to come.
About two weeks after my infrared difficulties, I was preparing to depart on a road trip with my family. Intending to get some work done during the trip, I brought along my computer. The Dell website that I had purchased my Inspiron from had claimed that the computer could run for 3 hours on one battery. Indeed. No more than one and a half hours into the drive did the computer inform me that only 5% of battery power remained. I was shocked, since the battery had been completely charged before my departure, and I had only been running Microsoft Word. But alas, I was out of juice, and was forced to do my work in a hotel room. Yes, I had to be STATIONARY to do work on my PORTABLE computer. Ironic, eh?
It's been six months since I purchased my Inspiron, and you can add an inconsistent scroll pad and broken parallel port to my list of problems. The only bright spot in this whole mess? Dell customer service has been more than willing to fix the plethora of malfunctions that pop up every week or so with my Inspiron.
To say I purchased a lemon would be an understatement, because when you have a lemon you can make lemonade. What I bought was a flaming pile of $#%&. So to all those considering a Dell Inspiron 5000, I say take your money and use it as kindling, because that's more good than this computer will do you.
