E-Diets is probably a good choice for someone with NO CLUE how to start a diet, but that's about it. Most people KNOW what they need to do, they just lack the motivation to do it. I know that's my case. I've tried Weight Watchers (and it worked), I tried Atkins and other low carb plans (and they worked), I've tried going to vegetarian lifestyle (and it worked), I've tried low-fat, moderate protein (and it worked)...the problem is that most diets will work when followed correctly, the trick is finding the one that works for you.
A good plan has to offer motivation, I don't think you get that with E-Diets. In many ways it's almost a competition going on with some of the chats and if you are only losing weight to be competitive with someone else, then you're cheating yourself. I think in many ways a good diet book is better than e-diets because with a book a) you pay one price and can refer to it anytime you need to, b) you can get it free at a library, c) the personalization is about the same, and d) either way the prime motivator is yourself. Weight Watchers works well for me because I need to motivation of being around and seeing others who are losing weight on the program, but I now have such a busy lifetime that attending meetings even once a week is not possible.
My review is probably a bit vague, but my main purpose is to express the ideal that E-Diets is a website/internet business. A business is there to make money, if you lose weight in the process great, but if you keep it off in the long term do they make more money? No. Second, it is not a brick and mortar building. Anything involving the internet is usually going to be more difficult to get good customer service with and to get refunds. Also, a program that is created for MANY users via the internet is only going to be so personalized, regardless of what you read. It is personalized for you and many, many, many others like you that share the same characteristics, but to believe they sit down and do up a program for each user like a nutritionist would do is allowing yourself to be fooled.
I tried it, I didn't like, I won't use it again and I wouldn't suggest it for anyone I know with any prior knowledge of dieting. I might would suggest for someone with no clue where to start, but only if they weren't willing to read a book or try something else first.
