I have placed two orders with Newegg.com and could not be more pleased with the price, quality, packaging, fast delivery and automated communications they send.
My first order was made on Sunday, February 18th, composed of Corsair 2GB of DDR2 RAM and 1GB of DDR RAM for $244.97 with $4.99 of that shipping. I received the package on 2/22/07 just as they promised in their e-mail that included tracking information. I was able to read the reviews on their site and see problems that may occur with the product. Most sites I know of typically do not allow negative comments as they just want to sell. Not so with Newegg.com.
My second order was placed on a Saturday, 2/25 for pqi 2GB of DDR, $131.99, no shipping charge for whatever reason. Again I was able to read reviews on their site to find the best deal without getting bum sticks for my money. Again all the tracking information was sent to my e-mail and received the product on 3/1/07 as promised.
All 6 budget sticks worked perfectly in the two Dell's (4700 for Corsair DDR2, Dell 2700 for DDR) and one e-machine (T2542 for pqi DDR). Had they not, as ALL reviewers noted that I read, Newegg.com sent them new sticks that worked.
Price
I really do not see how they are consistently the lowest, but appreciate that they are. It is refreshing that they do not charge exorbitant shipping and/or taxes that some do to bring them in line with other site's costs. If you are going to buy online, you obviously check a few places.
While likely a bit more quality and name brand, Dell charges 426.88, with 27.93 of that being tax, for just 2GB of DDR2 RAM and I got 5GB's, including this 2GB DDR2 for $376.96. For almost $50 less, I was able to get my machine to 2.5GB, including the 1/2 GB already in it, and maxed out my wife's e-machine and my mother's Dell 2700, at 2GB and 1GB respectively. The DDR2 has the EXACT same specs as Dell's offering, DDR2 533 PC2 4200. Both offer a lifetime warranty. I know, I know, I need to quit picking on Dell, but they have it coming.
Online account
You set this up when you order and it retains your order history along with the status of any current outstanding order. You can start a refund or replacement request. In ADDITION to the manufacturer's warranty, in general, Newegg.com will refund items within 30 days and replace them for up to one year. You do need to have a reason and they review if it is legit according to them.
There are many features in the "Account Settings" tab so you can easily change your password or e-mail address and on the "Subscriptions" tab you can opt out of their newsletter or product voting. You can also have a live chat session with a customer service representative.
Product offerings
Computers - They have a wide variety of computers including Sony, HP, Acer, Lenova, iBUYPOWER, enano and ABS. The low end is a $239 (after rebate) computer with mouse, keyboard and speakers (no monitor). Their high end is a $5899 pc, an HP with apparently some top notch stuff as it also does not come with a monitor. I do not see it as a bargain! They have laptops as well.
Computer Components - Enough to build a computer for sure. They even sell servers and server motherboards. You got backup devices, sound cards, speakers, video cards, monitors (a 22" widescreen for $338.99 - Samsung) and everything else you may need to add onto your PC.
Electronics - iPods, usb Internet phones, even a Logitech NuLOOQ Professional that does some nifty things, but I'm not sure what! They have plasma and LCD TV's too.
Digital Cameras - Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Olympus, Sony and others along with accessories.
Gaming - They have the PS3 for $599.99 and a host of accessories for gamers like steering wheels, wireless controllers. Mostly geared toward Nintendo, Sony and X-Box.
Software - you can download many as well as purchase an OEM version of Windows Vista Home Basic for System Builders for $90. There are PC games, things for Mac users up to server software.
DVD's - Plenty of them and varieties of formats, HD DVD, Blu-ray, PSP UMD and DVD audio.
Specials - they have some refurb items on the cheap as well as open box. Example Canon Digital Rebel XT Silver 8.0 MP worth about $600 retail goes for $469.99.
I will likely use them more often as I previously thought they were just a place to get things for your PC, but they have many nice offerings at better than average prices. So far for me they have been 100% reliable and their website is easy to navigate as well as do searches.
